We enjoyed our stay. The cottage is charming. Very small, but great for the two of us. The hot water in the outdoor shower felt great. We enjoyed walking the trails around the cottage. Great stay for us.
Such a magical experience! Cozy stay for a couple. Enjoyed the outdoor shower and hot tub.
Waking up to the view from the picture window was breathtaking.
Twinkle lights, cozy blankets, and quaint radio set the stage for unforgettable moments
Paradise cottage was the perfect base camp to explore Iceland. Close to Reykjavik if needed but also in a quiet natural setting with trails to run and explore and a beautiful view. It’s small by American standards (the size was perfectly fine with these Americans) but it has everything you need from cookware, a hairdryer, robes, very comfortable beds and we used the hot tub every day. My entire family agrees that I did a fabulous job finding this gem!
The view from the cabin over the pond toward the mountains is very nice. The hot tub was magnificent. The top is very heavy, opening it takes 2. Please note the outdoor shower is the only shower. Bathroom is small. Beds are comfy. Kitchen is well equipped. Very quiet relaxing stay. Walking trails nearby a bonus!
Location is great! 20 minutes into downtown Reykjavik and 3 minutes to the highway to serve as a base for traveling around. The location is quiet and rustic.
The cottage is a bit older and needs a bit of upkeep (bedroom door doesn’t close). I agree with others who have said that paying a bit more to have a cleaner come out would be worth it.
I loved the outdoor shower and hot tub. Great way to start and end the days of exploring.
It’s a bit cramped if you were to have more than 2 people as there’s not a lot of space for gear or unpacking larger suitcases, but it was an ok size for just the two of us.
Peaceful surroundings with a beautiful view of the lake and sounds of birds and loons. Close drive to Reykjavík. This cottage has all the amenities one would need for a getaway. The cottage was very clean and it felt very cosy. The bedrooms were very comfortable with fluffy pillows. The outdoor shower was unique but if you don’t mind quickly running out in the cold mornings, you can actually get a decent shower with hot water. No one will see you btw.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in Iceland.
You do have to give yourself time to clean up the cottage and change the linens before you leave , so if you have to catch an early flight , just be prepared to wake up earlier.
I loved this place and so did my family .
The owner can easily be reached via email if you have any questions or concerns and has a quick response .
Thank you for allowing us into your beautiful cottage.

My wife and I enjoyed that this house is very close to Reykiavik, yet you feel like you are in a more rural setting due to its location next to the nature reserve. We had great car access to the Golden Circle, Southern Coast, and areas farther west (including Snaefellsnes) for a little more of a drive. The house is close to local restaurants so we got to enjoy some great Icelandic food at reasonable prices.
The nature reserve is filled with hiking/biking paths so you can continue your enjoyment of the natural beauty this area has to offer without driving anywhere. Also, we got lucky two nights in a row, and saw the northern lights from the house. It's location really limits light pollution.
The outdoor shower and hot tub are great features. I didn't think the outdoor shower would be a thing, but I agree with prior reviewers that the hot shower mixed with colder temps is quite refreshing.
If we could change one thing, we would suggest that the owner charge a cleaning fee and have the unit cleaned by a third party instead of having the renters do it. We spent a portion of our last day cleaning instead of touring, and would have been happy to pay so we could have the time vacationing.
I stayed at this beautiful well equipped home for 8 days with my son while visiting Iceland from the US. The location inside Heidmork is absolutely breathtaking on its own! You are basically living within a nature park! The home is only 20 minutes from Reykjavik, so it is a great location to take in the city sights as well as being a home base for touring around the south and west of Iceland. We even spent a day just walking and hiking around Heidmork to break up the trip. The outdoor shower was fun, although my son took a bit to liking it. We adjusted the water heater down from maximum hot to a lower setting so that it was not scalding hot. The jacuzzi was the perfect place to relax in the evening after a long day of exploring. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. We made breakfast every day before heading out. We did make homemade pizza one evening and the oven worked perfectly. Having a washing machine in the house helped us to pack light and be able to wash our clothes and towels as needed. Heat was efficient when needed and one day the full sun warmed the house enough that the AC unit had kicked on by itself and kept us comfortable, but that was only one unusually warm day. The hosts communicated everything we needed to know before our arrival, and everything was provided or explained, so we didnt have to bother them at all during our stay. Looking forward to returning in winter!
Very welcoming. All amenities as shown and stated. Nicely semi-isolated in a nature preserve with a giant picture window for wildlife and northern lights! Hot tub every night.
The hot tub was nice, though we did not know how to warm it back up after not using it for a few days. The outdoor shower was interesting...but we got used to it. At least the water was hot! Overall, the location was beautiful, the cottage was cozy, and the New Years Eve firework display overlooking Reykjavik was unbelievable. Also, we were lucky enough to see some Northern Lights! Thank you for the opportunity to stay at your cottage.
Our host was wonderful, this wilderness surrounded cottage was perfect to allow us to enjoy nature and escape by only 10-15 minutes into Reykjavík or other excursions. Highly recommend
This charming turf roofed rustic cottage is just 20 minutes from Reykjavik, but is situated in the midst of natural wonders such as a lake, a lava field full of red pseudo-craters, and an inactive volcano you can hike to. Just 10 minutes to the Bonus grocery store and less to a 24 hour gas station and convenience store.
This was our first vacation in about 10 years and we enjoyed it so much! The locstuin was beautiful; quiet, pituresque, yet still close to all amenities. Loved having the option to have our own place away from home. Would definitely recommend!
