"We had read previous comments about the service or the owner’s attitude at this hotel, but our experience was entirely different. It’s important to remember that this is a small business run by a couple, and sometimes reviews don’t reflect the full picture. We stayed here for a week and found everything to our liking. "Couldn’t fault the breakfast and evening meals. We booked standard rooms and were surprised to discover they were 50m away from the hotel, the rooms were small and dated with old looking carpets. The bed was comfy and the bedding clean and fresh. The en-suite was very cramped and cold with no heating to dry your towels. The lighting was controlled by a key switch that was located on the wall next to the bed, you had to insert the room key with the huge key fob into it and it was impossible to get out of bed without risking hitting the key. The reading lamps above the bed were positioned so that you couldn’t sit up in bed unless you bent them out of the way which wasn’t easy. The pictures show the expensive rooms and the room we had was well short of my 4 star standard. There was a mini bar but it would have been better to give coffee and tea making equipment. "

"Very clean and comfortable, with beautiful views of the river and fields. There was some confusion with the check in process. We arrived right at the posted check in time and there was no one at reception and no one answered the phone number that was posted on the door. After about an hour, we almost gave up and found somewhere else to stay, but finally found another phone number on the website and got through to someone who then came and checked us in. I think we were supposed to let them know when we were arriving (it was in the off-season), but that wasn't very clear in the Expedia app."
