The Fishin' Hole In Valley Of The Pines Red River
The town of Red River is located in the middle of the Carson National Forest with hiking trails leading, among other places, up to Wheeler Peak, the highest point in New Mexico. The Red River Ski Area offers snow skiing and snowboarding beginning on the Thanksgiving holidays and continuing through Spring Break. Even when the natural snow is not as plentiful, the Red River Ski Area has the best snow-making in the state of New Mexico. Red River is just a fun town and is great for families. The town has wonderful shopping and galleries, nice restaurants, and even places to two-step.
The Fishin’ Hole is nestled in the Valley of the Pines just 3 miles outside of Red River. This quaint, three bedrooms, two bath cabin sleeps 8, has a full-size kitchen, wood-burning fireplace and washer and dryer. Two bedrooms each with queen beds are on the first floor, while the upstairs has another queen bed and a double in separate areas. The best “room”, however, is the new deck out back that overlooks the Red River that flows just 20 feet from the back door. The sound of the river is soothing to the soul, and the excellent fishing will provide the freshest, rainbow trout dinner around! The river is stocked in the summer months, and this location on the river is ideal for a good catch! Fishing not your thing? Art lovers will enjoy the numerous art galleries in both Red River and Taos, just 40 minutes away. Music lovers will find plenty of venues, hikers plenty of trails, and horse lovers trails to ride. Shoppers can park at one end of the town and stroll through the many, cute shops, stopping for a bite to eat at any corner. In the center of town is the Red River Community House, built in 1940. For generations, vacationers have returned to this spot for traditions all ages have loved, such as line-dancing, two stepping, guided hikes, boat-building for kids, movies on the lawn, and, best of all, endless egg tosses for all on the 4th of July.
Throughout the year you will have great fun watching the torchlight parade during ski season, enjoy Mardi Gras in the Mountains during February, the Fine Art and Wine Festival in June, the 4th of July Parade, the Hot Chili Days, Cool Mountain Nights celebration in August, Aspencade Arts & Crafts Festival in September, and Oktoberfest in October.
This cozy cabin is a little bit of heaven located high in the Rocky Mountains. It’s sure to bring joy to all ages. If you want to venture beyond Red River, Angel Fire, with a beautiful, 18-hole golf course, is about an hour away in Taos and 2 hours from Santa Fe, with its shopping, art galleries and restaurants. Come refresh you soul at the Fishin’ Hole!

This cabin was perfect for our family of 8! It is just outside of town and was so peaceful and quiet! The owner was very responsive and nice and answered any questions we had! We will definitely stay here again.
We absolutely loved our stay. It was very cozy and just like it advertised. We felt like at home in a winter wonderland. The cabin had everything we needed. It was in a perfect location. I will come again!
House was clean and easy to 4 wheel drive trails and to towns. The host was very nice and helpful. Will definitely come back. Awesome place to bring your family
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was just as advertised and we were very pleased with the cabin and its amenities. The owners have obviously put a lot of work into making the property cozy and quaint. The small river peacefully running directly behind the house offered just about the only sound in this beautiful location in the Valley of the Pines. We would love to return to The Fishin’ Hole and would recommend it to others!
Perfect setting nuzzled in the pines. The relaxing sound of the river running through the back was so peaceful. Quick drive into town for all the activities and restaurants yet allowed us the solitude and quiet get away we were wanting. Picturesque! Cozy, comfy and everything you need! This is exactly how I pictured enjoying this mountain town!
This cabin was more than what we needed the river behind the cabin gave us a peaceful feeling. Great views to wake up to in the morning! The cabin stayed warm! Lots of towels for my family! The washer and dryer was definitely a plus!
The perfect mountain cabin with everything we needed for the week. Loved the back porch with the Red River just a few steps away, so quiet and relaxing!

We have stayed in the upper valley outside of Red River for years. It’s hard to find good vacation rentals actually on the river. We were pleasantly surprised that the cabin is on the river. We loved the large back porch. Even though there were other rentals in the area, it was very quiet.
This cabin is the perfect location. It feels secluded and out of the hustle and bustle so that you can truly relax… close enough to Red River to zoom in and out. We stayed here in August…. So snow on the roads wasn’t a factor.
The river out back is so soothing.
Our 3 adult sized children had plenty of room and were not piled on top of each other.
Thank you, to the hosts for making their cabin available!
Nice smaller cabin with 2 bedrooms with doors and one upstairs loft type place needs a update with electrical outlets and switch’s some outlets don’t hold in cords some switch’s don’t work can in bathroom doesn’t work all was a good stay only real issue is the floors creek, not so cool in the early morning otherwise was a fun stay
We took our three elementary aged grandkids for 24 hours to the Fishin’ Hole. We were all content to just stay right in that perfect back yard and explore and skip rocks and wade in the stream. Or we could picnic on the table by the stream. Or sit and watch the kids while swinging on the porch swing. There was a perfect set-up for an outdoor fire and s’Mores in the evening. Played games from their plentiful supply. The kitchen was well-stocked and there was plenty of room for everyone. It was a beautiful setting for a mountain get away!
The cabin was perfect for our family. View from the master bedroom was phenomenal as you could look out and see the river flowing! We even got to see the first snow of the season! My grandson’s first time to see snow!! He was so excited! My English Bulldogs thought the river was a swimming pool and decided to jump in!😅 We also enjoyed the outdoor fire pit for some yummy roasted marshmallows. Kitchen was equipped with everything you need. Spence was extremely attentive to our needs! Highly recommend this cabin. Hated to leave but hope to be back one day!

Great location. Really enjoyed the backyard river. Weather was beautiful. We had several issues initially, but owner was responsive to repairs. Nice wood ceiling but we were disappointed with the confusion in listing details (4 bedroom, 2 bath), outdated furniture, squeaky floors as you're trying to walk through house to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night, burned out lightbulbs, carpet in kitchen and bathrooms, old mattresses, broken screen doors in bedrooms, poor water pressure in showers, overgrown grass in driveway and firepit. This home would be better for a family with kids. Kids in upstairs loft. We had all adults. We appreciated the games and also enjoyed walking in the neighborhood.
My wife and I have been going to Red River in September every year since 2018. The first place we stayed was the Fishing Hole, and we loved it. The location on the river is outstanding. We went there for 2 years, but the next year when we tried to book it, it was already booked.
We looked around and another place in the Volley of the Pines, and it was very nice as well. We started going back to the new place, but ther were always problems with cleanliness that we never had at the Fish Hole, so this year we decided to go back there.
When we got there and looked around, we were pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of upgrades had been made since our last visit. If there was one negative on our previous visits it was that the back porch was getting a little rundown, and that’s where we like to spend a lot of our time. The back porch has been completely rebuilt, and it is now first class.
Inside we saw that the furniture in the main room was all new. There are 2 very comfortable sofas. One of them, has a recliner on each end. That was great! We’ve been stay in vacation rentals for over 30 years, and we’ve rarely found one with a chair anywhere near as comfortable as our recliners at home. This was it. Also noticed a new stove, new washer and dryer, and I believe the bed we slept in was new since we were here last. It was very comfortable. It’s clear the owners have put some money into this place too make a nice place even better. We plan to come back.
