The home is light filled and roomy, with a great yard for the kids. A three minute walk down the drive will get you to a beautiful west coast beach, and all the sunsets you should ever need. There's also a kid friendly restaurant (Spaghetti House) about 20 metres away. Everything is handy, buses, car hire... the beach. The house is in the perfect location for easy car hire, beach and restaurant access.There was some handy spices in the cupboard and we found the lock box very convenient for making sure we never lost the key. A roof flashing was loose and flapped in the wind & kept us awake until we fixed it ourselves the next day. The stove did not work. There was no can opener. The crockery was depleted and was replaced eventually by the Mgr. The main problem was that the hot spot wifi did not work, the landline did not work and the TV did not work. The Mgr logged the problem with Vodafone but it was not fixed by the end of our 7 day stay. We therefore had no means of communication at the house during our stay. ##### Peter H. Fairly basic home, but still nice. Quite cheap furniture and appliances, but was nice that there were things we wanted to use like chilli sauce etc in pantry. Pretty hot house, the fans do help a little but not too much. Was great that the lounge and master bedroom had louvers with insect netting that could be left open - but my niece really suffered in the other room not having these. The beds are REALLY uncomfortable... both our bodies ended up feeling pretty rough after our 5 nights sleeping on them. SERIOUS ant problem that needs to be sorted too. Those really huge ants, just everywhere... Overall, still a nice place if you can't afford spending too much - but we were so glad to upgrade to another place for our last 4 nights on the island - and finally sleep in comfortable beds :) ##### Blair C. It got better when we realised the beach was a minute walk away. Was so impressed and couldnā€™t believe what we got for the price! Has all the basics so we could cook our own food for the week (only thing that we couldnā€™t get to work was the jug but was no biggy, we just boiled water on the stove instead). Was also extremely close to some really nice restaurants and the bus stops right outside the house so you can easily get to anywhere on the island if you donā€™t have your own transport. Studying further you realise it is not so. We have stayed in Rarotonga 16 times so knew the area and Edgewater and it was the price for up to 4 people that made us choose Philigra House The house is well equiped and we lacked nothing we needed. Most kitchen and bedding was new. TV was not great but that's the Cooks but we did see NZ beat Australia in the Netball World Cup. For us oldies the beds were flat but mattresses with more cushioning would be more acceptable. The location of the speed bump down to Edgewater meant every time the Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise bus came up to them the brakes squeaked and then the engine noise rose as the Bus accelerated away from them. Another Cook Island factor was the dogs barking and roosters crowing during the night. The lovely temperature compensated for this though. Great Restaurants close by and shopping convenient if you like to cook. Kitchen window by sink could not be locked. We did not use the internet but acquired a SIM card and for $49 received all the data, minutes and texts we needed. An information file would be helpful for first time people coming to Rarotonga.
