    Getting Around the Island

    Car & Bike Hire
If you’re keen to explore the island, there are plenty of great rental options nearby:
    • Polynesian Car & Bike Hire – located in Titikaveka
    • Go Cook Islands Car Rentals – near Wigmore’s Superstore
    • Island Car & Bike Hire – in Muri, opposite Muri Beachcomber

Alternatively, to save yourself the hassle, you can book a car or bike at the airport upon arrival.

Note: All visitors riding a motorcycle must wear a safety helmet while travelling around Rarotonga. It’s compulsory here on the main island (your head will thank you), but not required on the sister islands.

    Bus Service
Local buses run clockwise and anti-clockwise around the island. Simply head to the main road, wait patiently, and one will arrive eventually. Smile and wave them down (island time applies)

    Taxi Services
Taxis are readily available around the island if you prefer a door-to-door option.

    Airport Transfers
Airport pick-up and drop-off services can be arranged prior to arrival. KaiMani Shuttles Rarotonga come highly recommended.

Easy, relaxed, and plenty of ways to get around

Roosters and chickens wander freely and take their role as morning announcers very seriously. No alarm clock required, earplugs recommended for non-morning people.

Local dogs also roam freely, so please drive carefully. They believe the road belongs to everyone.

Expect a few uninvited but harmless guests such as geckos or insects. They live here full-time and kindly allow us to visit.

    Travelling from NZ or Australia?
Heads up Rarotonga runs on island time… literally. Thanks to the International Date Line, we’re nearly a day behind, so your holiday starts earlier than expected.

    Example:
Leave NZ on Friday, arrive in Raro on Thursday.
