We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely, spacious, nicely decorated apartment in the tiny hamlet (perhaps 8-14 buildings) of Galenda in the heart of the Chianti area of Tuscany. Tastefully restored from an old olive mill and horse stable, the property is situated amid lovely rolling hills, vineyards, and ancient stone buildings that all have a real charm. The amenities were all there -- laundry facilities in a nearby building, espresso maker, fully furnished kitchen, WiFi, A/C, TV/DVD Player (though we had trouble getting these to work well -- but who needs TV when there is all of Tuscany to explore!?). The staff (Thank you, Patrizio!) provided us with the extra linens we needed and worked with the TV. The shared pool was a real joy, and the grounds were suitable for relaxing in the sun (or rain, on a couple of days). Trails leading from the hamlet provided daily explorations of the nearby olive groves, vineyards, and forests.
The apartment was fully furnished, and the welcoming information binder was chock full of useful information not only about the apartment, laundry, A/C, etc., but also about all the surrounding towns and attractions. As well, the owner offered suggestions via email prior to our arrival. We used this lodging as a convenient hub from which to visit many neighboring towns, including Radda in Chianti (fine town with good restaurants, and only 10 min drive from Galenda), Greve, Panzano, Gaiole in Chianti, Lecchi, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Montalcino, and others. Several of these had produce and craft markets on particular days of the week, all spelled out in the information binder.
In summary, we had a marvelous time in this well-equipped, clean, furnished apartment in a lovely ancient hamlet, well-situated as a central point from which to visit the charming area of Chianti in Tuscany.
