First time at the Lycium, convenient location next to the city center and tram stop, the breakfast had a wide variety of foods. Comfortable beds and large, modern rooms. On the negative side, they skipped cleaning the roon one day, and by the time we got to the room and spoke with the lobby about it, "the cleaning lady had already gone home" so they could only offer us to replace the towels.

We enjoyed our discovery of Debrecen
My wife and I spent 3 lovely days in Lycium Hotel Debrecen. Our first trip in Debrecen, the hotel is close to the center. With the help of the receptiionists we had no problem discover the main attractions, On the third floor we enjoyed swiming in the large swimming pool and used the sauna and jacuzzi. The room is pleasant and warm. the TV screen is small and the TV program is rather limited.

Very good hotel in a decent cost
Overall the staying was very good. The hotel is fancy and clean. Breakfast is good, though without much selection. On the first night there was a bad smell coming from the shower, and after I complaint they switch us immediately to another room that was OK. Note that rooms pointing to the main street can be loud at night

Very good location and excellent value. On the bad side, in the afternoon and early evening there was lots of noise from kids on skateboards in the plaza below our room.

Good hotel if you have a stopover
We were arriving at 1AM and leaving at 5AM. The check in was efficient and quick. They offered a wake up call which we forgot to ask for, the taxi we requested the night before was waiting for us. Only 10 min from the airport. We got to rest.

Overall the hotel was very good and we would certainly recommend and use it again. Air conditioning in room did not cope very well with high temperatures, but to be fair the temperatures were hitting 38 degrees. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Only downside at breakfast was the lack of English breakfast tea. Only fruit teas and earl grey available.

Stayed 4 nights in this quite large Business hotel within a 5min walk to Debrecen centre. Some staff seem a bit down some are Ok but it's not a warm welcoming place. Breakfast has what looks like a big selection but ends up being kind of average, the coffee machine does not grind, but just dispenses liquid resembling coffee, the breads are always kind of stale, a poor cereal selection to chose from and very large dining area which can be cold. The room was quite nicely decorated and had a bar fridge, but no tea or coffee making facility. The large double bed with no split in the middle was unfortunately not comfortable with 2 single very light small quilt covers, combined with the noisy AC units outside a good nights rest was not really possible. The bathroom was nicely finished, but the shower head is way too high (like 2.5m) with excellent pressure but not very hot water. The Gym is a couple of machines in the pool area so not really a gym. Hotel does have a swimming pool I did not use. There's underground parking which is 8 euro per day. Had 1 meal at the restaurant and it was actually quite nice but the restaurant atmosphere is not great. There is a decent looking business centre I did not use. Beer from the bar could be colder. Nothing startling in regard to this hotel it's a fairly average place to stay overall.

Opinion on overall status of LYCIUM hotel
Everything was ok. The breakfast was excellent. But I don't think for a 4star hotel, the facilities were comfortable enough. The bed was below standard and the TV too small. Multilingual staff need to be recruited. The tariff was also a bit low for a four star hotel. That's why things didn't match very well.

Great choice, value and location
This hotel is centrally located with walking distance from downtown, shops, restaurants, museums, etc. The room is simple, clean, modern with all the necessary amenities. The breakfast was ample and the staff was helpful. Definitely recommend.

Nice hotel in a very special town.
Nice hotel with very friendly staff. Breakfast very good and a lot. Good location because this hotel is in the center of the town and good reachable with 2 tram lines from the train station. My wife and I enjoyed our holidays very much in the very beautiful, clean and nice town of Debrecen. When we come again we wish to stay in this hotel again.

If you are planning to stay at Hotel Lycium, try to make a request for a room which is not facing the street otherwise it will be really noisy... The windows are not noise-cancelling at all. Overall room comfort was OK, nice shower, but they should do some improvements like bigger TVs and coffee maker facilities. The parking system underground is very difficult. Hotel staff tried to be friendly but it didn't work out. They did not refill the food and water during breakfast, which was disappointing. By the way, breakfast selection is awesome!

Good choice for center of Debrecen
The staff at reception and dining were very polite and helpful, they can only be praised. The location is great, 1min to tram stop and 5min walk to center. Rooms were comfortable and clean although slightly worn, given that the building is quite new it could be better maintained. Breakfast was adequate but not great, coffee & juices were poor quality and the choice was limited alhtough acceptable. I really missed however a Hungarian Speciality corner, being in Debrecen I would have loved to try a Debreceni Sausage for breakfast but they only had (what looked) Merguez and Nurnberger sausages, shame. Also soap would be basic expectation, we had no soap in our roam, we had to use the shower gel from the cabin to wash hands. The wellness area should be better managed, on the first evening there was a loud group of "strong guys" using up both jacuzzis and one sauna whilst the other was blocked for a ladies "sauna seance", the infra wasn't turned on. We hanged around for half hour in the pool but with the loud laughing, shouting and splashes in the cold-pool it wasn't very relaxing, eventually we gave up when a further group of 10 people turned up. The staff at the spa (a very young girl) was clearly in no position to educate offending guests about proper behaviour. Next morning it was nearly empty and much more relaxing, the snow started falling which was lovely to watch from the warm jacuzzi :D. Note that slippers are provided for an extra charge.

Luxury at reasonable prices in heart of unspoiled
Debrecen is an un- touristed treasure. This near luxury hotel is very close to heart of town with its Protestant massive church and University. High quality room. Mile long breakfast buffet. Also spa with pool workout rooms and inexpensive professional massage available. Have desk reception book it for you. No tourist crowds seen. Mostly Hungarians. Hotel speaks English but not all shops. Gestures and smiling works OK. Or use your Google Translate app. Protestants will enjoy the University museum.

Breakfast was really not great. Also even if the hotel was half empty we've given a room in the other aisle of the reception so we had to walk into 2 corridors before getting to it.

Worth 4 star rating!
My wife and I travel a lot for our work. Far too many times we have stayed in hotels that were supposed to be 4 star hotels, but were not worthy of the 4 star rating. The Lycium is DEFINITELY WORTH THE 4 STAR RATING! Great hotel! Great service! Great breakfast! Great location! We have found our hotel in Debrecen!

What a GREAT hotel!
I would highly recommend this hotel! We were greeted with friendly, courteous and helpful staff and were impressed with the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms. The complimentary breakfast buffet had a huge selection of fruits, cereals, cold cuts and eggs, bacon, sausages etc. Would definitely stay at the Lycium hotel again! Thank you!
