Excellent location, peaceful place surrounded by nature, helpful and friendly staff, clean room and good facilities, very good breakfast etc. Nothing negative
A lovely place to stay whilst visiting the Hunter Valley, quiet , beautifully appointed and great staff. An evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. Very good hotel wouls recommend to anyone.
We’ve stayed at Spicers Guesthouse several times, and it has become a favourite for accommodation in Pokolbin. The staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, ie they are able to help with most queries without having to consult with supervisors or managers. The rooms are clean, spacious enough, and well appointed.
Room was nicely decorated and well kept, but overall it does not come across as a luxury accommodation. The staffs are friendly and welcoming but those at breakfast could do with better efficiency and higher service standards, for example, they do not show us to a table and took a while to come back for your drinks and hot food order.

Lovely stay. Great room and atmosphere I. The bar and restaurant. Also liked the fire pits.!
Although only for one night, it was a delightful experience. The room was spotless and modern, the lodge was very welcoming with log fires and a lovely restaurant, and the staff were welcoming and friendly.
Super cute location and accommodation. Recommend an early morning
Swim watching hot air balloons take off.
Relaxing peaceful and close proximity to wineries. Thank you for looking after us.
Excellent design of the buildings, with only one slight reservation- the size of the bathroom. Meals were first rate and the pool was delightful on a very hot day
Such a peaceful beautiful property, the pool is lovely and there are kangaroos hopping around. We had a fantastic stay. The staff were all very attentive, however, the one thing I will say is that we visited some wineries and were told that we should have gotten a card from Spicers to show to receive complimentary tastings, but we never received one. I guess they forgot, that would have been nice. Definitely would stay here again.
During our 5-day trip to Hunter Valley and Port Stephens, this hotel was by far the best choice we made. For our anniversary trip, the hotel staff upgraded us to the Hunter Suite and surprised us with a lovely bottle of local sparkling wine—such a thoughtful touch!
We also had dinner at Botanica, one of their associated restaurants, located about a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The meal was excellent and well worth the trip. Breakfast at the hotel was another highlight, as we enjoyed it outdoors in a serene and picturesque setting.
One of the most memorable moments was sipping wine while watching kangaroos hop around the property—a truly magical experience. The hotel grounds are stunning, and the attention to detail made our stay unforgettable.
Overall, a beautiful property with outstanding service that made our anniversary trip extra special.
We had such a beautiful stay here and have already recommended it to everyone we know. The spa/pool was a dream and everything was so peaceful. The restaurant was delicious aswell.
The only 2 baby flaws I had was that there was some rubbish by the spa on our first day and it was still there the following morning (it had just blown down a bit). It was only like a wrapper or something plastic but rubbish in general grosses me out. The other was that the big outdoor fireplace wasn’t put on and we were really looking forward to sitting there. We did end up sitting up the top and chatting with some other lovely couples but it would have been nice to sit down the bottom there.
Otherwise everything was 10/10. The check in was super easy, the room was clean and the views were lovely. We will definitely be returning
Spicer’s guesthouse was lovely, with modern and comfortable rooms and the grounds were very pretty, with manicured gardens and wild kangaroos watching from a distance. The staff were friendly but maybe not always as attentive as they could have been.
Given the guesthouse is the premium hotel of the Hunter Valley and was quite expensive I’m just uncertain as to what exactly we paid for. I think if you’re going to have a premium price you should be able to justify it in some way by distinguishing yourself from the competition but it was unclear to me if Spicer’s really achieved this. It was a nice hotel without being amazing or anything.
