This property was as advertised, on a lovely block of land in a quiet area, among the wineries. It was clean and comfortable with a great fire place and a pretty good kitchen. We would happily stay again.
Great cottage with all that’s needed for a weekend away from the city.
So many birds, wallabies and even a resident goanna, and the serenity….. beautifully quiet.
Love the wrap around verandah with so many places to sit and just enjoy the peacefulness.
The house was tucked away off the main road. One problem was finding it. The sign was very small. I could also suggest a solar light on the front gate for ease of finding it.
The facilities were very nice, but there was no washing machine nor a diswasher, and unfortunately, we were only given 1 inch of dish washing detergent.
Also i had to ask if there was town or tank water...there was tank water so we had to bring our own drinking water.
But apart from that, we enjoyed the ambience and the cosiness of the house. Three generous bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a decent loungeroom. Great for a damily getogether.
Lovely well equipped home surrounded by lush lawns and bush land. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the wraparound veranda watching kangaroos grazing in the yard. Close to everything we wanted to see and do on our weekend away.
We were impressed as soon as we started driving up to the house. Quiet area, clean and uncluttered surroundings, fabulously clean and inviting interior, beautiful linen and all the extras, much appreciated. The family had a great, relaxing time and we will certainly recommend this venue to friends. Thank you, kind regards, Helen.
Coming through the gates and driving up the track was lovely, then finding the cottage nestled amongst the climbing vines was just divine.
The cottage is simple, but has everything you require and having 2 bathrooms (very small showers) is a bonus when staying with 6 adults. We had many visits from the local kangaroos, which was entertaining. Didn’t get to use the large fireplace as it wasn’t cold when we were there but we hope to come back for a winter getaway. Highly recommended.

Disliked: Cleanliness
Great location but lack of ac and lots of cobwebs
Right in the heart of the wineries which was great. No sign at the road so not easy to find. Only one ac in the main living area so bedrooms were hot, despite a fan. Lots and lots of cobwebs around the house and inside around the lights. Curtains half fallen off their rods, kitchen equipment not great, it is a quiet location which was a real plus though.
If there was a sign at the front that would have helped. Also we didn't get any body wash which was a little bit annoying. There were also some tiles in both bathrooms that needed fixing as well as the showerhead in the main shower. Other than that we loved our stay at Silky Oak Cottage, many thanks

Won’t be back
Minimal phone reception on the property and no WIFI. The remote control for the TV didn’t work so you had to do everything via the back of the TV to watch anything, change channels and volume etc. The property listed it was air conditioned however the only aircon is in the lounge room. The fans in the bedrooms have a loud motor sound when you turned them on. Nails on the outside deck are poking upwards in sections so aren’t very nice to walk on accidentally.

Beautiful, peaceful property
This was the second time we have stayed at Silky Oak Cottage and it was just as lovely as we remembered. The cottage is very cute and clean and I would recommend to anyone going to the Hunter Valley. The horses at the neighbouring property were friendly and we fed them treats. The only negative was that there was insufficient dish cleaning products which made it hard to clean up. We cooked 2 of 3 nights and had to clean all glasses and plates etc. with steelo pads and watered down detergent. A proper sponge or scrubber would have been helpful. There was also no bench spray and only one chux cloth which got gross fast. It would also be helpful to supply cling wrap and foil.
Stayed for Friday and Saturday to catch a concert at Hope Estate with friends. It’s a home away from home for us as we have stayed here since the early 90s. Great place to stay with close friends.
A great location on acreage amongst some wonderful wineries. A very comfortable house well equipped with comfy beds, a great open fireplace and a lovely outlook with very tidy gardens and a friendly neighbours horse. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the open fireplace was very cosy with plenty of firewood supplied. Would definitely stay here again.
Myself and a few friends stayed here while up in the hunter for wine tasting. This house was perfect for what we were after. The rooms were spacious and beds comfy. Bathrooms had nice soaps/shampoos available. The Kitchen was well stocked and the fireplace in the lounge room was really valued on a cold winter night. The first night, we had a BBQ and sat in the outdoor area and enjoyed our complimentary bottle of wine.
Before our wine tour, we made friends with the horses around the property and enjoyed the views from the verandah as we had our morning coffee.
Apart from maybe the tuning of the piano, i couldn't fault this property, highly recommend staying here.

A peaceful location
We had a girls weekend away here. A great location and the house was clean and comfortable.
The highlights were the gorgeous verandah and the BBQ area, lots of nice spaces to hang out together.
We went for some walks around the area and noticed there’s a bike lane along Hermitage Rd, it would be a great spot to take your bikes.

Oasis of tranquility
Stayed at Silky Oaks nearly 5 years ago when last in Australia and loved it then so very excited to be back again and to find it just as charming. Only two nights but settled in so quickly that it felt longer. Loved seeing the Kangaroos but sorry not to see the horses this time.

Beautiful location, but the kitchen stove was a real turnoff.
We planned to stay in for the weekend on our two evenings and cook in the house. The house is very nice with a great fire and comfortable. I would strongly recommend against anyone planning to use the stove to prepare meals. It is very old, the dials are hard to read and really the oven and hotplates are not up to scratch. The oven did not heat up effectively and only one hotplate was effective. It would be great if they took the stove to the tip and put a new one in. We don't like writing these kinds of reviews, but we would prefer to provide some honest feedback and we emphasis that the rest of the house and location are really terrific!! New stove and we would go there again!!!

Peaceful stay in the Hunter
We spent 3 nights at Silky Oak Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Close to all that the Vineyards have to offer and in a peaceful location. Would definitely recommend.
