Live like a Newfoundlander!

Four Bedroom three and half star Canada Select property... fully equipped kitchen & 2 bath with dressed beds & towels, in a furnished home (30' x 40'), with a beautiful peaceful view of Point Leamington Harbor and the the Marina. Sparkling clean throughout, electric heat, air conditioned & all appliances.
Located in a small friendly community of only 650 people. Point Leamington & the surrounding small communities has many scenic, breathtaking areas known as an artist's or photographers paradise.
Sit out on the front house deck overlooking the local wharf, or by the crystal clear natural popular swimming hole, known to the locals as the Mill River (located at the entrance into town). Visit Point Leamington's Heritage Center & Aunt Ethel's Tea Room for a cool or hot drink & homemade snack . You might like to sample delicious Fish & Fries or the delicacy of squid rings at our local Bar & Grill or Chip Van.
An invigorating challenging hike up the well loved Rowsell's Hill Nature Hill, is a must for those who can handle it, will be unforgettable , if you are determined to hike to the very Top. There you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the whole town of Point Leamington & the many lakes, ponds and inlets along the coastline. Icebergs can be seen in the distance, from this lofty perch.
For more, take a short 20 min drive to the popular designation of Leading Tickles where you can stop & chat with local fisherman at the dock or fish plant, photo or paint the large icebergs that frequent the little community; Here you can often get up close & personal with the icebergs, since they often drift into the Tickle (small body of water, between two pieces of land) & ground themselves. Many times you may experience the large bergs turning over & breaking apart, right in front of your eyes! But, be careful not to get too close! They can cause quite a tidal wave! Collect some berg bits along the shore & bring it back to your "Skippers View Vacation Home", to enjoy "Millions of years old Ice", in your favorite drink, for later in the evening. The sound of the ice crackling is amazing!
While in Leading Tickles , be sure to visit the popular "Ocean View Park" (day pass for $5). While there, roam the beaches, photo or paint the icebergs, collect teasures from the seashore, like drift wood, local crustacean shells, unique rocks or enjoy a small campfire by the beach, while roasting wieners & marshmallows. Daredevil, may like to take a plug in the Atlantic Ocean for a swim in a naturally occurring wave experience, while an iceberg is floating in the cove!
A trip to Ocean View Park in Leading Tickles would not be complete without a climb to the breath taking look out - Take your Camera! There you might see Whales, Fishing Boats & Icebergs.
Ocean View Park also offers a full menu of Newfoundland Culinary Delights prepared by the local ladies. Leading Tickle's also has two other beautiful hiking trails - East Tickle & the Sunny Side Trail, that will take you along the old historic hand laden roads and pathways to locations where families once lived near the sea to harvest fish and till the land for vegetables, fruit & berries. If you are lucky, one of the locals may offer to accompany you , to give you an historical account of the families who once etched out a living from the sea, just as their offspring enjoy today. A keen knowledgeable eye can easily identify where homes, churches, vegetable cellars and fishing flakes once stood. A thoughtful look into the past will provide more insight, when you stop to visit the old settlers cemetery on the trail. Pack a lunch for this long but easy hike, that takes you along the beach & up through the trails & old roads.
Visit Jack Ward's Tea Room & Craft shop in his old fishing store house(located by the government wharf) - He was a very well known fisherman & animated story teller! Maybe you will have time for a Homemade Lassie Bun and a cup of Tetley Tea or you might pick up a Mummer (Google it) to take back home !
On you way back to Point Leamington , take a 5 minute detour drive to the quaint little picturesque town of Glovers Harbour (population about 70 ). Stop to the local wharf , take in a 2-3 hour speed boat tour & chat with the local fisherman, while they clean their catch of the day! Then go to the Giant Squid Interpretation center where you will be amazed at the story of the fisherman who spotted the Monster Squid with eyes as large as saucers! There they have local crafts & the favorite musical instrument for kitchen parties in Newfoundland -The Ugly Stick! Try taking one of those home! But, have your photo taken along side of the Giant Squid replica before you go!
If you are hoping to escape the hustle & bustle of the city or busy work life, this is the place for you! Simply relax! Experience small town life at its best! The local people will welcome you with a wink & a nod of their heads! We talk fast , with a strong mixture of Old English, Irish, Scottish & French language and music, all mixed together, for what resulted in our dialect and love of toe tapping music today, thanks to our hard working ancestors who loved this place that we call home, just as much as we do! But we promise, we will try and slow down our speech for you! And if you still are unable to catch what we say, we really don't mind repeating ourselves for you ! We are not bilingual as one of our previous guest thought, we just think & talk fast!
We are looking forward to welcoming you, in our beautiful province of Newfoundland!

Enjoy the Newfoundland Experience

We loved the experience. Hostess is amazing. House super clean and had all we needed. Loved the personal touches. Lots of character. Furniture unique to house...lovingly cared for. Cindy could not have done more to make us welcome and be part of her Newfoundland family. Loved the fresh eggs from her chickens and awesome buns! We're so happy we chose Point Leamington and Cindy's vacation home as part of our Newfoundland experience! Lots of interesting things to see in the area and convenient to other communities. Enjoy!

Home Away From Home

A great property with a view of the water from the living room area. Our hosts, Cindy & Bob, were most accommodating. We learned so much of local & regional culture. The house was beautifully decorated featuring a seaman style. I would highly recommend this property for anyone visiting the area.
