"We had a lovely room with a very comfortable couch and sitting area, a functional kitchen, and a bedroom. The view was amazing. The staff were so friendly and helpful, particularly Mar. we could walk to some great restaurants and had free parking. Definitely recommend this place!"

"This location is perfect for us. We didn’t eat at the restaurant upstairs this time because Portland does have a lot of great choices, however, it is good food, and I love the possibility of that. The room was clean as could be the bed was comfortable – I like everything about this hotel except perhaps valet parking."

"I really enjoyed this hotel, I love historic hotels it is a beautiful building that honestly could use some T.L.C. that being said it was very clean with good amenities, a fresh breakfast and comfy bed in a large room, good sheets fluffy towels 😃. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, But not too bad, simply be aware. I traveled as a solo female. I would definitely stay again."

"If you want to visit Portland, which I’ve done several times, this is definitely my first choice from now on! It’s right across the Fremont bridge on the city side, so you have easy access to the waterfront and the east side, but also many of the very cool restaurants and shops on 23rd St. are very close! I was able to use that as my homebase and explore the city and visit family and it was wonderful! The staff are especially nice and welcoming, the rooms are spacious and clean, and there’s plenty of good parking. Excellent place to stay!"

"The Mark Spencer is not what it was. We have stayed here I think four times and the most recent visit likely will be our last. First kudos to the staff for being solicitous and very helpful. However our room was not cleaned well. We found an old soap wrapper in the bathroom, some lost headphones under the bed, and a spent coffee packet in the coffee maker filter basket. We didn't dare use any of the mugs or glasses in the room, some of which were visible dirty. Apparently the booking included a bottle of wine, which no one offered us. We didn't miss it but the principle of the matter is indicative. The breakfast options were nice to have but would have been better if the advertised fresh fruit had been available. We enjoyed a tasty breakfast sandwich but received it on an English muffin instead of the requested croissant. Not a huge deal but again, indicative of the attention being paid to details. Top notch drip coffee from Peru and a very good espresso helped. From check in to check out the staff uniformly were helpful and courteous. John greeted us out front upon arrival and when he learned that we were running late he most graciously helped us get our bags to our room, as we had to park across the street due to the garage being full. Easy parking which was nice. It saddens me to see what was a home-away-from-home fail to meet the standards we used to appreciate at this handsome old hotel."
