Panoramic views on 50 private acres!

Come enjoy the big views from our beloved family home and find your heart's delight in canyon country. The home is a custom octagonal beauty with an open concept modeled after the Kiva construction of the local Ancestral Pueblo. Fully stocked kitchen with granite counters and a breakfast bar overlooks a 6-person dining area and a wall of windows with breathtaking views. The comfortable living area has two full sized couches, a leather "click clack" style futon, a fireplace, and a big screen tv with streaming services. The master bedroom has a brand new cali king Leesa mattress and a spacious en suite. The second bedroom also has a full en suite bathroom and is ready for guests big and small (it's our kid's room when we stay there and has a few toys for your littles to enjoy if you bring them). There is a full sized bed and a full sized futon in the second bedroom. The house is full of art and crystals with high vaulted wooden ceilings, making the space feel open and inviting. But it's the incredible views from the glass walls in all rooms are really the star of the show.

Speaking of stars, this house is perfect for stargazing. The light pollution is basically zero which affords you incredible views of the milky way, meteor showers and eclipses. But fear not: even out here in the middle of everywhere, the internet is strong! We have rural broadband with no limits, so you can stream anything and everything. I teach Zoom classes here with zero connectivity issues. There is, however, very little cell service in the area, so we recommend connecting to wifi and enabling wifi calling on your cell during your stay. We also have a house phone in case that isn't possible.

Nestled in what's known as "upper valley" just 15 minutes west of the town of Escalante, we think this gated 50-acre property has perfect combination of privacy and accessibility. You will not see a single neighbor, but just down the road in either direction, you'll find all the amenities you need and the best outdoor recreation the world has to offer. 15 minutes east is the gorgeous town of Escalante, with great restaurants, awesome guide shops (Escalante Canyon Outfitters!), amazing hiking, proper coffee (Escalante Canyon Outfitters again!), and even an organic seasonal market and a pub, both rarities in southern Utah. Continue on another 15 minutes and you'll reach Calf Creek Recreation Area, then Boulder Mountain, and finally Capitol Reef National Park, the least-visited hidden gem of Utah's big 5, only 1.5 hours from our home base and worth every minute of that drive, named as one of AAA's most beautiful drives in the country every single year. 15 minutes to the west of our home, you'll find Kodachrome Basin State Park and the town of Tropic which boasts a great coffee shop and the best BBQ in southern Utah. Another 15 minutes and you're in Red Canyon State Park, then another 15 and you're in Bryce Canyon National Park. Continue on another 45 minutes and you'll find yourself at the North entrance of Zion National Park heading into the famous Carmel Tunnel. We're also close to some of the country's best hunting and we welcome hunting parties as we would any other pack of adventurers!

WINTER CONSIDERATIONS: Between Mid-November and March there is a possibility of snow on the long, sloped driveway. 4wd/Awd is highly recommended during this time. But this is also one of our absolute favorite times to visit. Our old Dodge and our Subaru have no trouble, and the weather is typically sunny and just warm enough that hiking is perfect with the right gear (a warm light coat, winter hat, hiking pole, and shoe chains if it's snowy). We're also only 2 hours from Brian Head, southern Utah's best ski mountain, just outside of Cedar City.

DISTANCE TO AIRPORTS: The house is about 5 hours from either Salt Lake City airport or Las Vegas Airport. There is also a small airport in Cedar City.

Cute and cozy
Very well taken care of, comfortable house, played fun games, made lasting memories, enjoyed our stay. A little further away from Escalante than we've stayed in the past but it was secluded and was also kinda nice to have our privacy.

Beautiful Views
I loved the quiet and the incredible views. Even though you are close to the road, it feels isolated and like you are away from civilization.

Fantastic hideaway between Bryce and Escalante
We were a group of six good friends ages 70-75 who were on a week long trip through the National Parks of Utah. One couple who were in their camper most of the trip were happy to have a hot shower and slept on the couches in the living room quite comfortably. The other two couples had the 2 bedrooms. The house was well equipped and we cooked dinner each evening and had nice meals around the dining room table. It was quiet and far enough off the highway that we were not bothered by the occasional car passing by. We sat in the patio and watched the annular eclipse. At night the stars were spectacular. We used the home as a base to explore Grand Staircase/Escalante NM. I had wonderful communication with Laura the homeowner. She helped us get in early enough to enjoy the eclipse away from the crowds in Bryce and responded promptly to all our questions. We had absolutely no complaints about the home or our interactions with Laura. She left a notebook in the home which covered a lot of the details which helped. She gave us a list of restaurants and other places to go in the area. I would advise folks to slow down as you approach the gate to the property. By the time the voice on googlemaps said "the destination is on the right" we were going too fast to stop and had to drive a couple of miles farther to the next rest stop to turn around.(Minor detail) I would give this home 5 stars and would stay there again if we return to this beautiful area. Black canyon city riding crew
We first rode Sand holllow, coral pink and loved this location to ride escalante. The house is adorable on 30 acres. Well kept secret. My husband picked 110 mile loop through uncle Allen’s cabin, drove through escalante stair case national park - fueled up in escalante - then did hells backbone road and did an a long loop right back to the house. We had four adults. The master bedroom was comfy. The other adults slept on the couch the next couple of nights. We hiked the lower calf falls and did Bryce Canyon one day. Love this area.

Mixed feelings
Pros: property was clean and location was very quiet and remote, and we enjoyed being able to see a night sky full of stars. Cons: the bed in the master was terrible. There was a plastic waterproof covering that not only made the mattress super hot, but it made crinkly noises every time you moved. The mattress also didn’t fit properly in the bed frame, so it tended to bowl in towards the center. I slept on the living room sofa the first night because of this (in addition to there being some very thick fleece sheets on the bed). We found some other sheets that were in the dryer when we arrived that made it a bit more comfortable (plus we flipped the mattress over as it was wrong side up and stuffed the edges into the frame the best we could). It would’ve been nice to have an outdoor grill and outside seating area (didn’t pay much attention to this when I booked the property, so my fault for not catching that). It was kind of a pain to find some place to dump our trash, as we were headed west to Bryce when we left and didn’t want to go out of the way to go back to Escalante where there are dumpsters. Lots of rules about what not to do (no fires, don’t use one of the sinks in master bath, don’t open back doors, don’t use tub [this last one was mentioned in the description]). I think with some work and home maintenance this could be a great property. It did feel a bit too much like we were staying in someone else’s home than in a rental property.

So much to say but only 1500 characters. to say it in !?
PROS: Near ESCALANTE. It can be quiet except when traffic passes or the stupid dogs up the road bark. Night Sky is AMAZING; & the frogs that sing at night. The coffee is good. Beautiful crystals decorate the house. Open kitchen with high ceiling peak makes a good impression. Strong WIFI & enough TV options even if much is from the accounts of former inhabs that forgot to logout. Shower is STRONG. CONS: House is in a lowland. You look up in every direction & can't see the horizon. Can't watch the sun rise with your coffee, or set with a glass of wine. The house may sit on 50 acres but only a SMALL fraction is usable. Grounds are unkempt with dilapidating fences & piles of debris. There is evidence of past gardens, long abandoned. The feel is of being at an abandoned pioneer site that had a house plopped onto it. There is nowhere to walk to except up the driveway to the street. House is slow to warm and it gets hot on a sunny day. We arrived on a chilly, wet day. It took hours for the radiant heat to be felt. The light dimming shades do not block the sun. It got hot (low 80s with no AC) Biggest complaint - There is only 1 way into the property & 1 working door in/out of the house. Bedroom patio doors are locked or unusable. This made me nervous. If it sleeps 10, I can't figure how. There are 2 beds for 3. That puts 7 people in the living room on sofa beds and the floor. I suggest you bring your own pillow. No outlets or lamps by the master bed for reading/charging devices.

Simply exquisite
This home is special at all levels. It is completely peaceful, quiet and private. Although near Hwy 12, the most scenic highway in America, we never heard any vehicles, although we could see them at times go by (not too often) from certain spots. The home is very unusual architecturally, shaped like a hexagon with tons of windows, most floor-to -ceiling, to take advantage of the wonderful views. Not only are the details of the home quite attractive, the host has very good taste in the items which decorate the house and other appointments. This home is very well located for Bryce, Capitol Reef, Red Canyon, and other delights. Don't let this one get away. We highly recommend it as we did not want to leave, and certainly will be back.
