In 1924, one of the reels of film got stuck in the projector and caught fire, igniting a full reel in the lower magazine. Only the outer shell of the theater survived the fire. The Kinema was rebuilt "as near fireproof as possible" and reopened in 1924. The Kinema Theatre was renamed the Hub Theatre in 1928. In 1933, the theatre was renovated and renamed it the Gem Theatre. After the advent of television, the theater could not attract large enough crowds to pay film rental fees. The Gem Theatre closed about 1986. The title of the last movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, remained on the marquee for ten years as the theater sat idle. Beds are super comfy, fully stocked kitchen, plenty of blankets, etc. One of the best rentals I've come across as far as attention to detail. Washer and Dryer were a plus! Host makes awesome sourdough bread too. The house is close to Bryce Canyon and not too far from Zion. We also went skiing at Brian Head (about an hour away) in the mountians. So much to do here, we went in the winter, but it would be even more awesome in the warm months. Hosts let us park our RV out back aswell. My only complaints were that the water and ice maker on the refrigerator were not working and we had a little trouble with the washing machine not filling properly. Other than that, the place was spacious enough for all of us and my kids especially loved the tv room. The owner has brought some food items and even bathroom items that you can purchase, too, and that was a definite perk. And to help with the ice situation, they had several ice packs that you could use. We packed our lunches for the day before we left, so those were handy without the ice maker. We made a quick weekend getaway to Bryce Canyon and Kodachrome state park. This place was a great place to stay! Check in was easy, the place was clean and extremely cozy. We loved being close to the national parks. The home was big and beautiful inside. We had everything we needed and the kids loved the movie room. There were so many thoughtful details, including the “Store” and especially the homemade sourdough bread and peach preserves.
