At the heart of the region is La Pampa Province, the bread basket of gaucho heritage. Find European influences in the orderly capital of Santa Rosa and visit laid-back villages such as lakeside Casa de Piedra and 25 de Mayo. Go bird watching, horseback riding, hiking and hunting when staying at estancias located a short drive from Santa Rosa. Finish your day with a wood-fired asado (barbecue) accompanied with succulent meats and fine wine. Spot varied wildlife and admire barren landscapes at the province’s protected reserves. Lihue Calel National Park is great for camping and hiking and shelters fox, Patagonian hare and wild cat. Walk amid calden forests, see herds of red deer and visit the historic Estancia San Hubero in Pedro Luro Park. Travel west to the Atlantic shores of Buenos Aires Province.
