#### Admire the range of frescoes on the walls and ceiling of this fascinating site, among the oldest colonial gems in the Americas.

The Palace of Cortés Museum is a 16th-century colonial structure of Gothic mudejar architecture. Built in the early 1500s, it is among the oldest conserved colonial buildings in the Americas and today contains a museum about the region. Learn about the role of the building and this city in Mexico’s history and development.

Take a guided visit of the building to understand its intricate history. The palace was also used as a Catholic temple, a jail and a government headquarters. It was initially the house of Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortés.

Enter the Cauhnáhuac Museum in the building for a comprehensive overview of the state’s history dating back to pre-Hispanic times through Emiliano Zapata’s agrarian revolution. Browse various coins, costumes, weapons and carriages that shed light on the former cultures of the region.

The museum has multiple halls on a variety of themes, displaying artifacts such as fossils and migration maps. Inspect pottery and stone tools and learn about the nearby Xochicalco archaeological site.

See the spectacular *History of Morelos: Conquests and Revolution* mural by artist Diego Rivera. The large painting presents a chaotic scene with monsters and humans depicting the history of Morelos from Cortés to Zapata. Admire other works by the same artist Rivera was a prominent Mexican muralist who helped to create art that documented the nation’s history as part of the Mexican Mural Movement.

Capture photos of this colonial behemoth of a structure, with its arches and colonnade, from the adjoining Zócalo de Cuernavaca. Relax in this large and spacious plaza in front of the building. Alongside the square are many restaurants and cafés as well as intriguing historical sites.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from morning until early evening. There is a fee to enter. Sundays have free admission.

Find the Palace of Cortés Museum in the central part of the Old Town area in Cuernavaca. It occupies the southeastern corner of Zócalo de Cuernavaca, which is the city’s main square. See nearby sights, such as the Cuernavaca Cathedral, the Ocampo Theatre and the Palace of Justice.

Staying here was absolutely wonderful. The staff are amazingly kind and helpful, the building is stunning, and the amenities are top notch. We like our rooms cold for sleeping and the AC delivered. We also had to do work for some of our stay at the WiFi was more than enough for two people to be working and taking video calls. The bathroom had good water temperature control and water pressure, along with L’Occtaine products. The square outside is bustling and alive with people and music but the sound proofing is so good we never noticed. A diverse and delicious breakfast menu is available to you every day, and on the top floor of the hotel, one of the best restaurants in all of Centro Historico is available to you for dining. We were originally supposed to stay at a different hotel in Zona Rosa that turned out to be a bit of a scam. The staff here accommodated our change in plans without a hitch, and were even willing to run a WiFi test for us before we arrived to make sure we would be able to do work here. The gym/fitness center is a small room with just a treadmill and elliptical, but there are plenty of gyms nearby if you want more machinery. Although Centro Historico is not as verdant or serene as some other neighborhoods in CDMX, it is in walking distance from a variety of incredible historical sites, museums, and restaurants making it a great place to call “home base” during your travels.

If you want a cool lobby, book here. Staff is great and it's definitely a fancy place. I don't think for what you pay, the value is not great. Nothing is included, not even breakfast. No amenities, the snack bar is lacking and there is no bar. This is a cool place to stay for a night, but I would've booked elsewhere for a longer stay next time.
