Not the most comfortable room, no chair and the beds very firm but the room was clean and in good décor. room has a kettle and a small fridge and met all our needs for the short stay. The inn was very close to the town centre and five minutes to walk. We would stay there again if we return to Oxford shopping.
The hotel is really well placed, with free parking on site. The room (n°5) on the second floor was spacious, cute and clean. But, the noise during the night was unbearable, we could not sleep for the 2 nights we stayed in. So if you come to Oxford to party that's perfect, but if you want to visit and sleep at night, avoid it.

Basic and clean, quite noicy.
Its located on walking distance from the city center. The building is old but the room we got was renovated, clean and spacious. Nice personel. It is very noicy though both from the bar downstairs and from the street but if that doesn’t bother you It’s ok.
The bed was incredibly uncomfortable, I could feel the metal from the mattress protruding through and only managed to sleep when I slept on half my duvet and wrapped myself in the other half. If there had been two of us this would have been difficult. Never come across such a bad mattress.
But the staff were kind and the room was clean.

Location was superb. Parking facilities great. Large flat screen TV which was good.
Main grouse was the hot shower. Miserable trickle. Takes a good 30 mins to wash my hair. Temp fluctuates between cold as ice and boiling hot with very little in between.
It’s a pub so nothing much of customer service to speak of
It was very basic, the toilet was full of brown water and the bathroom smelt of sewage initially until we run the tap for a few minutes. The room was basic, the initial welcome/greeting was poor but the breakfast and breakfast staff were excellent. Ideal location for Oxford.

too expensive for its quality
luckily we only need to stay one night here: very small room and low roof; very noisy till the late night (room is on the high traffic street); shower with very low pressure and flow rate, no hot water; breakfast just passable. In total, too expensive for its quality.
The location was excellent being a short walk into Oxford, with a choice of amazing restaurants around the corner on Cowley Road. The traffic noise at night was very loud but we expected that. The room had been recently refurbished and was clean and comfortable. The dining room was gloomy and the breakfast was passable.

No longer a traditional pub
Good price and location. Sad bit is they redid pub and lost all world look. No real ales.
I’ve stayed before and miss the pub. Two good pubs near by.
Great full English breakfast but only available for 1 hr 7:30-8:30
Great location with parking, breakfasts were really good. Room was quirky but comfortable and as its an 18th century coaching inn to be expected. One niggle water pressure was not great for shower.
Have stayed here before cannot fault. Close to all amenities

You get what you pay for
The hotel is recently refurbished, but clearly on a budget. It is an old building with the ground floor being an old and also refurbished pub.
Th bathroom in room 4 was new, but the plumbing looked a little circumspect. The shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. The new thermostat was suspect. That apart the room which contained a king size and single beds was nicely decorated and furnished. The hotel is inexpensive, and I would stay there again. My wife would not.
A building site, no staff. This is a poor hotel for £100

The Old Black Horse is getting a young facelift
Although the renovation work is being undertaken at this moment in time we were not disturbed by it. A hearty welcome greeted us, and our room (already renovated) was perfect for the three nights of our stay. Although facing the busy main road we were relatively undisturbed by traffic and pedestrian late night chit chat; although over the busy main bar we heard nothing from below at all. The breakfast was more than adequate, with polite and quick service, and fairly decent food.
The main reason for our choosing The Old Black Horse was its proximity to the Oxford town centre, and the provision of parking. Both were big pluses towards our stay. We also like the more quirky Cowley Road which we have visited in the past; again it was just around the corner...literally.
To summarise: good location, pleasant staff, refurbished room.
Thank you to all concerned.
The room was dark, dingy, and depressing, the only disappointing room on our three week journey yet the most expensive. The shower head kept falling off the wall, and the carpet was old and dingy. Breakfast was good, and the staff were accommodating.
Old tired pub letting out rooms. Enter through public bar no reception. Men, dogs, Tv, loud music etc nothing inviting. Barmaid couldn’t find key. Room clean, no top sheets on bed, unironed old duvet cover, double bed not even a duvet! A bedspread type thing and no sheet. Breakfast awful staff refused initially as 8.30am finish we were there just before but no staff she was washing up I had to go to kitchen. Scrambled egg toast not even buttered. Not offered toast jam etc tiny tea for 2. Awful we just left.
