Nice little bungalow on the lake that my group stayed at for a few nights to explore Western Ireland. The scenery was gorgeous, and it was a very quick/easy drive into Oughterard for restaurants / supplies.
It is wonderful to arrive to find that everything is exactly as described in the VRBO listing. The house is lovely and well preserved. The views are amazing and the quiet was exactly what was needed.
This stay and area were the highlight of our trip. We loved everything about the cottage and location. Breathtakingly beautiful and right near the lovey town with everything you need to include world class coffee, and multiple outstanding pubs. Clancys is an absolute must as is Powers Thatch.
Excellent communication from owner, the photos from the owner do not do the views of the lake justice.Excellent location to get to Galway or the Wild Atlantic Way. Definitely need a car to get around
After a whirlwind tour of Dublin and Cork we found a refreshing change of pace at this bungalow outside of Oughterard to ring in the New Year. There was plenty of room for the five of us and it made a great landing spot for day trips to the Cliffs of Moher and Galway.
Perfect place to stay after the hustle and bustle of Dublin. Quiet and peaceful.

We enjoyed the owner and property manager. Beautiful view of the water. When the house was first built it was probably very nice. It needs a little tender loving care. Some spiders were harmed while we stayed there.
The property was as advertised and very secluded on a peninsula. The lake is quite with great sunrise and sunsets. Mike (property manager) was easy to get ahold of and pleasant to work with.
Overall, not a bad place. Good central location to visit the many attractions in this special part of Ireland. Amenities were good. The cottage could use some upgrades such as more comfortable living room furniture. The mattress in the ensuite needs to be replaced as well. The outside could use some sprucing up. This cottage has potential just needs a little tlc.
What a gorgeous setting on Lough Carrib! We enjoyed stunning sunsets over the famous lake. The house is spacious and wonderfully equipped. It is close to the friendly little town Oughterard and only 25 kms away is Galway. The house is a great base from which to explore western Ireland. The owner and caretaker were extremely helpful.
This home is situated on a peninsula that allows views of water from both sides of the home. The wide windows give opportunity to take it in as well as the comfortable seating to sit and read. The rustic home felt cozy with the working fire place and we were provided ample supplies to keep a fire each evening. While there, it was very cold and were glad for it. A short ride to the village and some nice walks there can be found. A great spot to then venture around the area.
The cottage was as expected. It was quaint and quiet. The scenery was beautiful. Mike met us at the property and went through everything we needed to know. He followed up later to make sure we didn’t need anything. He was quick to return our call when we had a question. The beds were comfortable and the house had everything we needed. It’s very peaceful.
Lovely house with a vintage feeling. The living room (and 2 bedrooms) have bay windows with amazing view of the lake. Be prepared for stunning sunsets! And so practical to watch our teenager while he was fishing from the pier. House was very well equipped. Neighborhood is very quiet and friendly. The village is 5mn away with many shops and restaurants. Excellent base to visit Connemara.
Absolutely loved our week at the house on the peninsula by Lough Corrib! The house offered everything we needed for our family of 4. The property is beautiful inside and out, and the views of the lake through the back windows are breathtaking.
A 5 minute drive from the property puts you in the charming town of Oughterard which offered several options for dining, grocery, butcher shops, and cafes.
The property manager Mike was fantastic and checked in regularly via messaging to see how we were.
We would (and likely will!) absolutely visit again!

* Great, but …
* GREAT location, beautiful views and a really great property manager! That stated, the property is run down and terribly in need of repair and updating. Overall, we had a wonderful time with family but would’ve been more comfortable at a hotel in town. It’s certainly a place we’d want to come back to if the property was cleaned up and updated. Thanks to Mike for making our stay as comfortable as he could … he alone gets 5 stars for bringing us firewood and answering all our questions!
Can't recommend enough. Beautiful location on Lough Corrib. We had a family reunion and the house had everything we needed for big dinners on the shores of the lough or in inclimate weather, eating indoors. Oughterard is very easy to get to from Galway on a new road that makes the journey quick. (about 30 mins) The town itself is lovely with nice food options for eating out. The interior of the house is very comfy. Especially the beds. The furniture is a bit dated but did not present any problems or deter from experience. We will definately be back.
Stylish Mid-Century Modern villa with wonderful view
We loved our 2 week stay in this stylish 1960s Mid-Century Modern bungalow with Lough Corrib at the end of the garden. The building is very original, retaining period features with some sympathetic updating in kitchen and bathrooms. The views out over the lough are mesmerising. Building manager Mike could not have been more helpful.
The villa was constructed as a fishing lodge and that is the theme that runs through the building. It is an ideal base for touring the picturesque Galway and Connemara region.
I'd just suggest that the hardwood (teak?) window frames and other exterior woodwork get remedial attention soon to sharpen up the outward appearance of the building and prevent deterioration of this period gem.
Probably the most beautiful location you could hope for!
The location of this property is stunning. Was hypnotised by the view from the back of the house the entire stay.
Oughterard is also a great location, close to both Galway and the outstanding Connemara.
Only downsides were the amount of spiders, spider nests across all the windows. A jet wash or brooming could have solved quite easily prior to arrival. Also they were joined by millipedes in the house. It feels it needs a bit of TLC on the inside - flooring in en-suite and kitchen.
Would highly recommend if these small things could be taken of.
Both Nick & Mike very responsive
During our recent family trip to Ireland, we had the pleasure of staying in a delightful traditional Irish house in the quaint village of Oughterard, nestled along the serene shores of Lake Corrib. This charming house boasted a beautiful fireplace which became the centerpiece of our evenings, providing a cozy, warm atmosphere that enhanced our experience.
Oughterard proved to be a hidden gem, with its lovely town and incredibly welcoming locals who made us feel right at home. Do yourself a favor and do your souvenir shopping at John P. Keogh & Sons Irish Gifts and Crafts! Then have a pint at Powers Thatch and if you are lucky enough to be in town on a Sunday, make sure to get there early for the traditional Irish music. The house itself came equipped with all the comforts necessary for a family, ensuring a seamless and comfortable stay. Both the host and the caretaker were exceptionally responsive and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was managed perfectly.
We are immensely grateful for their hospitality and the memorable experience they helped create. We eagerly anticipate our return to this beautiful spot in Ireland. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine taste of Irish charm!
I am very familiar with Baurisheen Bay, as my family holidayed there every summer when I was a child.
It is just the most peaceful, beautiful setting.
My family usually stayed in the house next door, so this year when my parents booked that house, we booked this one.
I'd never seen inside it,and I was pleasantly surprised.
It's a wonderful house, with a great layout, very spacious for families, and of course that view...just stunning.
I found Nicholas very pleasant to deal with when booking.
And Mike, who takes care of the house, was just brilliant. Very welcoming and friendly when we arrived, he got us whatever we needed, and is just a top bloke.
The house has been very tastefully restored. I love the decor, the big orange sofa by the fire, which was usually taken up by my 2 teenage daughters, and the kitchen was huge and beautifully refurbished. The floor and wall tiles, cupboards that were inkeeping with the original character of the house, and great big fridge. A really great space for families.
My younger kids had a ball jumping in the water, wearing wetsuits. That was the hghlight f their holiday. We brought our paddleboards, and on days when it wasn't too windy we paddled all around the bay, over to the sheep island.
The gardens are well kept, grass nice and tidy. The front garden is big...great for Frisbee or kicking a football around.
My old labrador was in his element too.
We would definitely return to this house. We loved it.
We had a lovely stay and the days were clear and bright showing off the location as we were surrounded by lough Corrib. The open fire was delightful. The well equipped kitchen easily accommodated our Christmas day meal. The design of the house is excellent and accommodates all real needs with a variety of spaces.
