If you love old buildings and Swedish lakeside resort villages then this is the place for you! Beautiful and fascinating old building; we got “lake view” rooms which meant we were in the old convent. The rooms are well decorated with modern bathrooms; our only complaint was that the bed in a “small double” wasn’t very wide - about the size of a full size bed in the USA- so as two adults we didn’t have a ton of room. But it was worth it to stay here. We really loved the breakfast, served in what was originally a palace banqueting hall and was then used as the nun’s dining hall - you can’t ask for much more atmosphere than that. It was one of the better selections we’ve seen at breakfast traveling around Sweden. Would love to come back here!

An exceptional property with incredible service. Sofia went above and beyond to ensure our stay was spectacular! We cannot compliment the staff enough as it was truly a highlight of our Sweden tour. The restaurant offered one of the best meals we’ve ever experienced. From the quality of the accommodations and hotel ambiance to the restaurant food and service, right down to the bespoke organic bath products, this was an a fantastic and memorable stay.

Frukost ingick fast det inte såg ut som det i bokningen, så det var en bra överraskning! Mycket bra bubbelbad på rummet, men det tog ett tag innan vi förstod hur man fick igång det. Rent och snyggt men tvådelat lakan i dubbelsängen, vilket var lite synd.

Would not recommend
Worn out (bathroom tiles, pillows, surfaces in the room). We booked a double room and there were 2 single beds pushed together with a 10 cm distance. No temperature regulation nor sound isolation from outside. Very poor breakfast. Definitely not recommended for a young couple. The village was nice though.

A fabulous stay and experience. Only negative was that items used in room and bathroom were not replaced, like shampoo, coffee etc. Would definately return and recommend.

We specifically asked at check in if dinner reservations were required and were told they were not. Went to the restaurant at 7:30 when it was less than half full and host refused to seat us. Had a great dinner elsewhere. Went back at 9:15 and restaurant was still less than half full. We asked why we were not seated earlier and were told they were short staffed. We had to move a desk to open the window in the room. Bathroom was badly in need of updating. There was no elevator which is not noted on website. Also, no bell man to assist with luggage. Beautiful location but definitely not worth the price since staff does not have any concern for guests.

I apologize that you did not get a table in our restaurant, unfortunately one of our colleagues just got sick before service so we were understaffed in our restaurant. Again I apologize so much but glad to hear that you had a nice dinner at another restaurant. We are currently in a process of renovating our rooms. The building where you lived is an old monastery where we cannot install a lift. We have different hotel buildings for different needs, but we should review how we can convey it to your guests before arrival. Of course, we help guests who need help with their luggage, so sorry if you asked our reception and got a no? I hope we still get the chance to welcome you as a guest. Nice room, beautiful setting and town
We had a lovely stay in a comfortable room (Deluxe Double Room, With a walk, 2x90). It was very clean with a large bathroom and comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good in both my wife's and my opinion. The breads seemed very fresh, the fruit was delicious, and there was a wide variety of foods for all tastes. Our nearly two year old feasted like a princess! It is very conveniently located to the beautiful Swedish town on the lake. We enjoyed it well.

Loved every part of our stay
Beautiful hotel in a building that still retains some parts from the 13th century. Wonderful cultural experience and we loved perusing the many rooms that were beautifully decorated and held many photographs and poems of local (and national) significance. The restaurant was also amazing and the service was wonderful throughout. Will definitely be coming back! Such a lovely town as well that truly cares about retaining its historic heritage.

Great hotel in old monastery
This is a very nice hotel in a great location. the hotel is based around an old monastery and nunnary. Our room was spacious and comfortable with excellent beds. Breakfast in an old building which is lovely and a good choice of items. If you want to dine try Restaurant Hornet close by. It has a small but delicious menu

Step back in history at Klosterhotel
Klosterhotel is in a delightful town overlooking a peaceful lake. Reception was laid back but friendly and informative though the reception area was very cramped. Our room was comfortable with plenty of character as befits a hotel of this age and history. The meal we ate at the restaurant was excellent. The wait staff were professional and the food of a high calibre. Breakfast, which was served in the great hall, was a little disappointing. Some food had run out and not been replaced and the hot food was lukewarm. Nevertheless,Klosterhotel, although on the pricey side, was a great experience.

Setting great; hotel average
Hotel expensive for British, but Vadstena was a great place to stay two days. The hotel fronted the beautiful lake, with the cheaper rooms in the annex in a large house 7 mins walk away but next to the castle and surrounded by wide lawns where we could sit. The small town very walkable, so no need to drive; a few restaurants that were not cheap but fine; lovely to stroll along the lakeside, and a delightful tea room next to the lake near the hotel, with garden and home made cakes. A small beach 5 mins drive away where we swam and chilled out ( ask in Tourist Office for directions). Our room was furnished c.1900, and we found it oppressive (if interesting), but others may like that. Tea and coffee in room. Parking near annex. Wi-Fi intermittent - very frustrating as we needed to book the next nights accommodation. Breakfast good, and young woman in charge could not have been more helpful. Recommend Vadstena, and recommend this hotel as the best place to stay, even though it could be better!

Outstanding hotel in memorable location.
I cannot rate this hotel too highly; everything was perfect. Our room was spacious and tastefully and thoughtfully decorated. The breakfast was superb especially in the setting of the former monastery refectory. Parking was free and conveniently located Considering we only paid £15.00 more for our two night stay at this hotel compared with the Slottshotel in Kalmar, I would consider this hotel outstanding value for money

Very historic
Loved our stay and town of vadstena! The hotel is so nice! It smells wonderful like clean wood. I wish I could have stayed there a week! Peaceful. Nice breakfast. A must visit!

Great location
It is not one location for all the rooms of the hotel. I believe it is 4-5 locations. We were in the former sanitorium for the insane. It was a great location, but small and hot. (In most of Scandinaiva, there was not air conditioning and they were having a heat wave.) There were other locations for the hotel, closer to the lake, that I would have preferred. I did not understand the layout when I booked. But it was fine.

Hotel virtually closed for winter
Expedia accepted the booking without informing me that the hotel is virtually closed for winter. Reception left the key out for me on arrival Sunday afternoon There was no restairant or bar - and nobody to book a taxi for the next morning On Monday I left before breakfast (on Tuesday breakfast was good) I paid on departure, but wanted to pay the previous evening - reception desk was closed even BEFORE the time stated..... could have been very difficult to pay if I had an earlier departure Room large, clean and comfortable. Hotel by lake is probably very nice in the sunshine, but I only saw it in te dark

Historiskt boende
Fantastiska historiska lokaler med stort trivsamt rum och mycket fina lokaler för restaurang och frukost. Man äter frukost i "Bjälboättens palats".
