I contacted the property for check-in instructions and received an automated reply. Arrived at the property and there was a phone number written on a piece of paper taped to the wall. Called and had to stand in the sun waiting for someone to arrive. The person who came did not speak English. She called her daughter to translate and her daughter was also not able to translate. When they opened the gate for us to enter, the property looked abandoned. No other guests visible. The restaurant was visibly unclean, even had wood lice running along the walls. The overall experience turned me off and I decided not to stay. Ending up booking another hotel on the spot. Do NOT recommend! And they won’t offer any refund. Unbelievable.

The photographs on the site are not only misleading they are fake. The furniture and fixtures shown do not exist. Something went terribly wrong with this property and it should not be promoted on sites like Expedia without someone verifying the accuracy of the information. During our 10 day stay (we tried to relocate but couldn’t due to Carnival season) some people left after one night or refused to stay, there were sex workers operating out of room 4. No restaurant or any food service at all , no bar, infrequent room services due to only one employee on the property. The roof of the gazebo by the pool was collapsing. The interiors of the rooms were bare concrete floors and walls and dilapidated furniture. There was hot water only in the shower, the kitchenette and bathroom sinks had only cold water. This degree of deception should be criminal and I write this not only as a review but a condemnation of an industry that would expose unwary customers to an unacceptable experience.

The place is nice and clean. Our room was on the second floor was very aesthetically pleasing. Lots of power outlets in the room, which is great. The housekeeping lady is wonderful at maintaining the property. We got fresh towels everyday. The water pressure in the shower is great, and the pool on the property was nice and clean as well, which we appreciate. The area could’ve been a little quieter, the internet at the hotel itself was really spotty and weak, and the place was listed as “breakfast available” with a fee, but that wasn’t the case when we arrived. The listing on Expedia even had photos of breakfast. But overall it was a great experience, place in a very convenient location close to city, restaurants and beaches

Can’t beat the price. Everything in walking distance. KFC & Burger King less than a block away. Pool was nice and refreshing. Mattress was amazing. Saved money staying here versus an expensive resort.

It was an easy walk to the main part of town. Room was spacious and looks like the picture. Pool was fantastic. Restaurant on property was excellent. No reception so it was difficult to ask a quick question. Staff who came every other day were great and helped with anything we needed. Sofa in room was tired. Bed was good. They didn't turn the hot water on when we arrived so no hot water for a day, but not bad. Fairly quiet. Slept well

This place is an abandoned building disguised as a hotel!! BEWARE AND STEER CLEAR! I believe it’s being rented to locals as short-term rentals, I was the only guest that I could see. No available staff, no check-in or front office. The woman who picked me up from the airport handed me my room key, and also charged me $30 to pick me up two hours after I had landed. No credentials, unmarked car, and very BIZARRE! Upon arriving at this “hotel” the room had holes in the walls AND ceiling. I ended up covering the holes in the bathroom and shower to give myself some peace of mind that no one was watching me. There was no hotel room phone and no room services (food, bellhop, etc), no housekeeping staff available to replenish towels, no office to report to, my room was only cleaned once during my week long stay. I had no one to call when there was a lizard in my room that I could not get out. The windows also do not open. I was concerned for my safety while I stayed there. I tried to contact hotels.com to get a refund and check into a different hotel during my stay but I could not find any number of contact information.

Was not able to check in. Upon arrival nobody was present. I walked around and shouted for assistance for a good 20-30min. Called number provided and no response either. Crazy part was we had messaged earlier to confirm my flight and time of arrival details. After getting fed up and traveling with my children, we had to leave and pay $200 elsewhere. I tried to cancel another booking I had with them and theey refused to issue a refund for both stays. They claim they were present and available when I have proof showing otherwise. Hotel on the outside seems sketchy as heck, pool area not too bad, beyond that I cant say. Very disappointed because the pictures make it seem like a nice place but upon doing more research, we were not the first people that this has happened to.

Monastery Suites is physically a gorgeous property with unique architecture and interior design and beautiful artwork throughout. Perhaps due to Covid and labor shortages, the communication and service were subpar. There is no front desk or staff on-site and no available food as advertised. We had some contact with the hotel (management?) via the Expedia app, but there was a language barrier and delays in having our requests fulfilled. All-in-all I would stay again just with the knowledge of the property's defeciencies and a plan for food and transportation.

First off, they offer grocery package and will bring it without telling you how much it is first so you’re stuck paying for what they bought. Second, there’s no wash cloths. Third and most importantly there was hair in my shower.. black mold in the shower and in both sinks. I live in the US so I’m familiar, she tells me it’s the color of the concrete but when she “cleaned” it with bleach some of it came off so I was still exposed to mold. I contacted the team and all they said was “your stay is ending soon”. It’s cheap but it’s just not worth it. The pool also wasn’t cleaned.

The room has everything you need. The breakfast was great. The service in general was very good. The customer service was attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The design of the interior of the room is very special and the decoration is very authentic.

Clean, towels, dishes robe to wear to pool, hostess helped with covid testing location and called taxi for me. Coffe maker but no coffee, asked for early checkin 6 days in advance room not ready when I arrived, van one way from airport $25 this is very high, no green salads on cafe menue.

Hi, it was a pleasure hosting you at The Monastery Suites. Early check ins are always upon availability. In your case we did check you in earlier than our normal check in time which is 3 pm. Not to mention the fact that you arrived almost an hour earlier than you communicated to us. Even so we sent our shuttle right away to the airport to pick you up. We have all ingredients to make a delicious garden salad, if you had requested this to us we could have made this for you without any problems. Communication is important in situations like these.

The worst!
We are very displeased with hotels.com! The conditions of the place were deplorable with the topper of no hot water. We weren’t offered another room until we had already booked a new location. No help to hotels.com who said their system was down. We were told the hotel refused to return our money (a place like this it doesn’t surprise us! Why would they!). One would think hotels.come would Have also informed us that the hotels rating went down significantly from the time we booked to the time of our stay. Terrible experience all around

The family like treatment by manager Vicky was commendable. She even made sure we got breakfast in our room so we can relax. She was veey very accomodating. Eric at the restaurant was very polite and professional and took care of our vegetarian food needs. The place is economical and if you are on a budget and desire free warm breakfast with downtown within few mins of walk, this the place to be. The room theme is monestary style. We liked the stay and would recommend.

Hotel staff were all very friendly and accommodating. This is a fine centrally located hotel within a 15 minute walk to downtown where all the action is. Food and accommodations were comfortable and for the price, could not be beat. I would recommend this hotel highly.

Great personnel, but do not recommend the hotel
The only great thing about the hotel are its employees (Eric, Irma, Vicky, etc) and the pictures available in all the booking sites. There was no permanent security at nights, sometimes no security at all (they have two guys who rotate between the other hotel of the same owner and a night club). Actually during January 1 at 5:30 am someone broke in and started knocking on the doors saying he was room service (all room service personnel were women and the next day the other guests of the hotel were complaining about the same security issues). The breakfast is very limited and does not taste that good. However, dinner was nice (pinchos). Some days they not even das towels neither for the beach nor white towels for the rooms. The firat day they had issues with the electricity. Many nights The restaurant did not have many of the ingredients for preparing the food. One of the rooms stunk the first day, we could not use that room the first night and had to accommodate on the sofa bed of the other rooms. Additionally, the hand wash and the floor of the bathroom were in cement, which is not very friendly nor hygienic (they should be of glass or ceramic to avoid concentration of bacteria). It is worth noting that The sheets were clean and the bed was fine. personnel was very nice, they were always trying to help us out solving all the issues, in spite of the limitations they had because of the hotel’s resources. This hotel has a lot of issues to fix.

To further guarantee the safety of our guests we recently installed a new gate by the main entrance. This gate is supposed to be closed and locked at 11PM. We are requesting all our guest to make sure the gate is closed properly after entering or exiting the property. For breakfast which is included in your reservation we are of the opinion that its not limited at all. We have a variety of scrambled eggs / boiled eggs / Bacon or sausage / Pancakes/ Ham & Cheese / White and whole wheat bread/ fruit jam/ fresh fruits/ milk and cereal/ coffee thee & orange juice. Furthermore, we appreciate your constructive criticism on our property and we promise to improve where necessary. Kind regards Team Monastery

It’s a decent hotel for the price you pay. But if things go wrong, then management does not care and you are on your own. We left the property two days after staying there, though we had paid upfront for 5 days. Property manager did not even say sorry. Things kept going wrong. Now we are trying to fight back to get the remaining three days back.

Our property manager sat with you to discuss the situation and you requested a refund from him. He correctly informed you that we do not issue refunds when there is no basis for this. There was one time that we had a power outage and this was fixed as fast as was possible. With all due respect, this is no reason for a refund.
