This place is gorgeous, and awkward, and loud. Not just a little bit loud either. The conversations I heard through the house made me uncomfortable the entire evening, but the owners stated 10 pm was quiet time. By 10:40 I'd had enough and messaged them. I didn't get a reply and left, more out of frustration over the noise than anything else. It felt disrespectful to pay money for a room that shows like a tranquil sweet, but with non-stop noise - and I'm not joking when I say non-stop. I messaged them again letting them know that I was leaving and I would appreciate a refund because the property felt like a false advertisement. I also mentioned that they should include a noise disclosure in the property description. To be fair, the owner said he had kids and that sometimes they could be noisy. I love kids and was okay with that because kids usually go to sleep around ten. But this noise wasn't from kids. It was from adults living under the room.
What I expected as a response was an apology for the noise but that they wouldn't offer a refund. What I got was an incredibly hostile owner accusing me of prostitution, telling me I don't belong in anyone's home, along with some very hurtful rants. Then he proceeded to charge me 50$ for using a ceiling fan and another 50$ for using his home as a "pit stop." To be honest, I'm a bit shaken up over the entire process. I left promptly because I genuinely needed sleep and it was clear I wasn't going to get any. I felt ripped off and had for hours before leaving due to the excessive noise. I was really in need of a break before going to the hospital, which was the entire reason for the stay.
I can handle the noise, the being ripped off. What I'm struggling with was how I was treated. There are very few times in my life where I have dealt with so much hostility in a transaction.
The owner is stating that I was one of the worst guests he's ever had. All because I left, let him know, and asked for a refund. That's a very customary request in business and this would have never happened had I been in a hotel. In fact, I'm not sure I want to rent from these types of properties any longer. I'm honestly still shaken up by his words. He did refund me, but also lectured me. I do not recommend this place at all. Check out the nearest Marriott, they are always nice.
Also, Vrbo doesn't offer any help. So if you stay with someone and they decide to verbally attack you, you're on your own. BUYER BEWARE!!!
