About this property

Island Lake Redwood Cottage With Canoe and Grill: Relax, Swim, Fish, Ski, Enjoy

  • This beautiful, spacious, redwood cottage sits on incredible Island Lake about 2 miles out side of the unincorporated community of Orange Springs. Set on a perfect, private lake lot, the property consists of the large main house, a spacious guest house, carport, dock, boat house, and patio. Great lake views, old live oak trees with Spanish moss, and a lake breeze describe this picturesque environment. Completely renovated in 2011, this marvelous retreat has a large kitchen with gas range; dining, living, and family rooms overlooking the lake; new baths; laundry facilities; well-appointed furnishings; and more. The main house sleeps 7. If you rent the optional guest house (2 persons), the property can accommodate a total of 9. The dock is terrific for fishing and the lake is great for swimming. 80 feet of shoreline awaits you. There is a canoe, charcoal grill, picnic table, and fire pit for relaxing outdoors.

As well, I have 2 other lake houses nearby if this one seems too large.

The property sits ideally between the cities of Ocala, Gainesville, and Palatka, each with its own distinct character. Ocala is home to:
    Elegant Horse Country and Farms
    National Ocala National Forest
    Silver Springs Park is located
    Central Florida Community College
    Gainesville is home to:
    The University of Florida
    Santa Fe Community College
    Shans University Hospital
    The Veterans Hospital
    Palatka is home to:
    The St. Johns River
    Fun Restaurants on the water
    Closeness to East Coast Beaches

OTHER LAKE OPTIONS: Check out my two other lakefront properties on the next lake over. These other 2 are next door to each other on separate acres. Ideal to rent just one cottage or for a large family gathering by leasing both. Listing/ Property IDs: 127321 and 117133.

Great End of Summer Vacation

My family and I are frequent visitors to the Redwood Cottage and always have a great time. The weather was great and the fishing right off the dock was amazing. Ed has always been a great host. We have booked with him for at least 15 years.

Relax and Decompose

The lake house is something of a fairytale. Hugh trees with Spanish moss, an adorable home, and a spectacular view right on the lake. It’s located in the country so you can relax and get a piece of mind.

Perfect getaway

This is the second time I have rented from this owner. It is set perfectly on a lake and made us feel like we were on a true vacation from everything. The neighbors aren't close, but close enough that you don't feel too isolated. The home was clean and had everything provided that we needed. I hope to be back at some point!

The house is nice and the view/lake/backyard is wonderful. People should know that the house has a horrible smell for the hot water only. The smell of rotten eggs is so strong it smells up the entire house when the hot water is on. The host said that is how all the water in the area smells, but it was only the hot. We had to go somewhere else in the area to shower and there was not a smell with the hot water. It seemed to be a hot water heater issue and not the area's water. Also, the house is left unlocked when you check in. We arrived late and it made us uncomfortable to walk into an unlocked house in the dark.

Fabulous FL Lake Stay

We were all very pleased upon arrival to see this beautiful property. The cabin is well appointed, clean, has a fantastic view with an open feel of surrounding windows. Gorgeous oaks with their Spanish moss abounding. The kids & dog enjoyed playing in the lake daily, canoeing around & just having outdoor fun. We brought bikes but didn't use them since the neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks & folks drive fast. Fishing off the dock was just what we wanted. The yard is fenced along 3 sides to the water, there is some gap by the gate(s) if your dog would consider running/swimming off you will have to watch them. There are motor boats in this lake with some noise but it is overall peaceful. My older 2 kids stayed on the bunk beds in the den with the TV (YouTube only available unless you have other subscriptions). This room is nice for family relaxing with comfortable furniture, only no door for those staying in it for privacy. One child in the guest room slept comfortably. Master bedroom is nice, some sag in the bed had us switching places after a couple days. The main bathroom has a walk-in shower & a tub in the master. Everything is labeled for easy use, there is most anything you need in the kitchen, nice washer/dryer. Plenty of towels. A Dollar G is a couple miles away for most food/sundries, but not a full grocery. Need charcoal for BBQ. Good wifi access. Few bugs, especially for FL by a lake. Need to transport trash to recycling center yourself. Beautiful & will return!
