Sleeps 6 πŸ‹ The Wooden Whale is a 3br/2ba retreat nestled in the quiet NW area of relaxing OKI, and has all the amenities you need to find that place of respite. Comfortably accommodating up to six people (including children), we think you’ll enjoy your stay at The Wooden Whale! We take cleaning & sanitizing our home very seriously. Our expert cleaning crew abides by all industry standards and practices procedures endorsed by the CDC/WHO. Enjoy quick access to one of just two bridges onto the island and beach access points. Two minute drive/10 minute walk to the ocean and an even shorter walk to the Intracoastal Waterway. Oak Island has a paid parking program that charges for the majority of public parking spaces along the beach from April 1 - September 30 between the hours of 9am-5pm. Paid parking passes are purchased at time of use through a mobile app at a rate of $5/hour, $20/day or $80/week. Town of Oak Island public parking spaces are clearly marked and are generally located at public beach access points and town-managed recreation areas such as Middletown Park. Pay by downloading the Surfcast by Otto Connect app and/or by scanning the QR code on parking signage. The Wooden Whale is our home away from home. We’ve put a lot of time, energy and effort into making it a space that is welcoming, comfortable and well-appointed. The space has been professionally-designed and boasts an open floor plan with lots of natural light. Relax under the cooling breezes of ceiling fans (in each room), enjoy a cross-breeze from the full screen front door to the screened in porch off of the kitchen. High-end laminate flooring and ceramic tiled flooring in wet areas make clean up easy. The living room boasts a 55” smart TV with access to Netflix & Hulu (bring your login info!). The kitchen is packed full of dishes, cookware, small appliances and other essentials. We love to cook and have taken great care to include all the elements needed to create memorable meals. Curious to know if we have a particular item, just ask! There is a separate laundry room and common cleaning supplies available as well. The Primary bedroom has a King bed, walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom with double vanity & garden tub, dresser, bedside tables, quilt/coverlet, and pillows. The Queen bedroom has a Queen bed, dresser, bedside tables, quilt/coverlet, and pillows. The Twin bedroom has two twin beds, dresser, desk/bedside table, quilts/coverlets, and pillows. Both Guest bedrooms have close access to a hallway bath. Please note that sheet sets (including pillow cases) and bath towels are not provided. We are happy to recommend local rental services if you are interested. Our home comfortably accommodates up to six people (including children). The screened in back porch is the perfect place to sip your morning coffee, read a book curled up on the sofa or in a hammock chair on a rainy day, or enjoy an evening beverage with friends and family. Just outside the porch, you’ll find a patio complete with a dining table and chairs for six, and an outdoor shower for rinsing off after a fun day at the beach! Plus, enjoy a hammock for two in the spacious backyard! Outdoor games including cornhole and jenga are available for use as well. And don't forget the in-ground fire pit with accompanying six Adirondack chairs. Great for cooler evenings! A gas grill has been provided for guest use. The real star of the island is the beach itself. It's a short distance by bike or car with over 60 public beach access points. No matter the time of the year, your time spent at the beach will be memorable. Our absolute favorite place in the world is β€œThe Point” – the westernmost part of the Island where you can enjoy outstanding sunsets and calm waters. We love the western part of the island. It's quiet but offers quick access to everything that makes OKI special. Take a left out of the driveway to reach the Intracoastal waterway - calm waters perfect for fishing. Take a right and arrive at the beach in less than 10 minutes (walking) or 2 (by car/bike)! Lots of lovely oaks adorn the island and the beaches, well, they speak for themselves. The Wooden Whale is located very close to the Swain's Cut Bridge (the "new bridge"), one of two access points to the island. There are two grocery stores on the island (Food Lion and Publix on Oak Island Drive) in addition to Lowe's Foods located just across the Middleton bridge. The island is motor and pedestrian-friendly. Oak Island Drive has sidewalks that run it's length and the neighborhood streets are quiet and calm. We have six beach chairs & umbrellas for you to use, and an excellent rental service to recommend if additional items are needed. Two lounge chairs are also available, although we ask you refrain from taking them to the beach - they are perfect for sunbathing at the house. Sadly, no pets are allowed and smoking is strictly prohibited in the house. Please dispose of any cigarette butts outside appropriately. Spent a short weekend to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday. Wish we had more time at the house - it was so cozy and had everything one would need for a nice little vacation. Hope to take my husband back sometime and really enjoy the amenities provided. (Just in case you're like me and tend not to read all the fine print, you will need to provide your own linens. It seems that Jeff and David have thought of everything with a well stocked closet for outdoor activities and an excellent kitchen. We will definitely stay here again. The fact that bikes are included is a HUGE deal because we rode the bikes more than we drove. The only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars from us, is having to bring our own linens or rent them. But we understand and wouldn’t mind doing it again. ##### Parker L. Can’t control the weather. Oh well, the home was super clean and yhe host kept in good communication. Only real gripe is the need to supply our own linen which was communicated in the listing but was still a first for us, and toilet paper which was not. The internet was spotty but likely weather related. The kitchen is very well stocked with spices, cutlery, etc. there are candles, lighters, and tons of whale themed knicknacks to explore. The back yard firepit is a big win with lots of dry firewood (bring your own Tinder or lighter fluid) There are beach chairs, and pleanty of toys for young kids. The bicycles needed maintenance but we were near the end of the season. ##### Troy L. Location of the Wooden Whale is very convenient to the ocean. House is furnished with all that you need for a week away including games, wifi & tv. We rented our linens to cut down on packing. We so enjoyed our stay at "The Wooden Whale". The owners have taken great care to outfit and decorate the cottage in such a way that you truly never wanted to leave! We especially enjoyed the quiet, peaceful screened-in porch, the abundance of reading material and the well-equipped kitchen. We were also very appreciative of the quick and prompt communication from the owners. Everything was "as advertised" and the beach was just a short walk away. We hope to be back! ##### Leslie L.
