The best area to stay in Nyamirama is around the shores of Lake Kivu, particularly in the vicinity of the Nyamirama Peninsula. This area is known for its stunning lake views and provides a tranquil setting away from the main town centre. It's characterised by gentle hills sloping down to the water, with several properties offering direct lake access. The main road that runs along the peninsula connects various guesthouses and small lodges, making it easy to get around. For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, this area is ideal. Many lodges here offer private balconies overlooking the lake, opportunities for boat trips, and quiet spots to enjoy local cuisine. The serene environment is great for unwinding and enjoying the natural beauty of Rwanda.Families will also find this area suitable due to the availability of activities like swimming in the lake, kayaking, and organised nature walks.

The best time to go to Nyamirama is during the long dry season, from June to September, or the short dry season, from December to February. These periods offer comfortable weather with less rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the surrounding nature and visiting local communities. The days are typically sunny and warm, with cooler evenings. For travellers interested in wildlife viewing, particularly in nearby Akagera National Park, the dry seasons are especially good. The vegetation is sparser, and animals tend to congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot. This is great for those looking for an enriching safari experience without the hindrance of heavy rains.Conversely, the rainy seasons, from March to May and October to November, bring heavier rainfall, which can make some roads less accessible and outdoor activities less comfortable.
