wonderful stay in the heart of York

Posted 13-Oct-2016
Pros: everything. location great.
Cons: nothing
booked this for my Mum and Dad's golden wedding anniversary present. on top the extra touches I had requested, the hotel made a real fuss of my parents - glass of champagne, congratulatory hamper, chocolate writing on their plates etc. they have come back raving about it, a really memorable experience.

Elegant and convenient

Posted 04-Oct-2016
Pros: The decor is beautiful. Their pub, the Chapter House is also elegant.
Cons: A ramp or lift for the few steps up to the lobby would be helpful to travelers with bulky or heavy luggage.
Location: A short walk to everything in York proper. Great shops, restaurants and attractions. The Fairfax House is a well preserved Georgian mansion.
Adjacent to the train station and right outside City walls it is perfect for any traveler without a car. Beautifully appointed. Very comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Beautiful, sumptuous hotel

Posted 28-Sep-2016
Pros: The position in York and the very grand decor. Excellent for a special occassion.
Cons: Thought it was a little expensive for the room
Location: Everything you will need is at hand.
So well placed for either the Railway Station or York Centre. Disappointed in the size of the room seeing this was a superior double. However it was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.

Stunning hotel

Posted 27-Sep-2016
Pros: The design
Cons: Room size and car park size
Location: You can see York Minster from the hotel which is well worth a visit.
Beautiful hotel with stunning interior design. We booked a standard room in the main hotel which was incredibly small for the price, however the room and bathroom design was so lovely we couldn't complain! Try to request a room on the opposite side to the train station as we were right next to it which was very noisy, you could hear trains and announcements very clearly. The breakfast at the hotel was nice but a little on the cold side. The car park was very small considering it is such a large hotel. The location of the hotel is perfect, only a 5 minute walk to all the shops/restaurants in the city.

average stay

Posted 06-Sep-2016
Room too far away from hotel amenities. Our room was far too hot with only a small window you could open. The fan provided was of no use at all. The pool area was in desperate need of upgrading. The changing and shower facilities were very run down with flaking paint and missing locks on the shower doors

Fabulous hotel

Posted 01-Sep-2016
A fabulous stay at a gorgeous hotel. Excellent staff where nothing is too much trouble. We were upgraded to a superior room which was lovely. Good swimming facilities too. Complimentary water offered which was very welcome in the hot weather. We look forward to staying here again soon.
