Good but could be much better !
Lovely looking pub from the outside. Some nice staff Nice atmosphere but…… Food was average Rooms were average Drinks prices were massively inflated We drove 8 miles down the road to the Forresters Arms where the food and service was far superior and prices were much more palatable 👌

Really is a fantastic spot to stay. Great views and lovely apartments. Only problem we had was not being told when our dinner reservation time was on arrival. Easily resolved by asking when we went down to the bar for a drink. Meal was out of this world as was breakfast. We will definitely be going back.

Great stay
Quirky room with a wonderful comfy bed , this was Field . Evening meal was delicious , the pork tomahawk and the pie . We were too full to have a sweet unfortunately . Breakfast next morning was also very good

Great stay!
Great place to stay, very friendly staff, nice cottage, maybe not easy to warm up on this time of year.. very nice pub with tasty food. Nice breakfast in the morning. Easy to find and easy to park a car.Good for families,friends and couples.

Very disappointing
Check in was fine until we found that we didn’t have the twin bedded room we had booked however this was handled well and we were offered a king size bed in another room instead. Unfortunately it was a particularly cold night and this room had no heating. Various people made trips to ‘the boiler room’ but were unable to fix it. It was too cold to have a bath or shower! There were no low tables or luggage racks so we had to balance our suitcases on the chairs. This left only the bed to sit on. We had booked the dinner, bed and breakfast. £180. This included £80 towards food and drink. However this turned out to be a rather clever marketing ploy as it was impossible to keep within this budget as the restaurant prices were very high. One of us had a steak at £28 which was over cooked and inedible. This was replaced by another which was just as bad. We gave up on the meal at that point and put some extra clothes on and went to bed. The staff are young and helpful. The manager is probably doing his best. He did a lot of running about. The ethos is a bit ‘full on trendy’, lots of artefacts, chalk boards (awful writing) , and branded goods for sale. An entrepreneurial mind has been allowed to forget the customer in this enterprise. No manager was available when we checked out, we left our feedback with a young person but no contact has been made since, All rather sad and disappointing, especially as this was supposed to be a special occasion.

Awesome Durham Ox
We stayed in Field cottage and the room was fantastic. Great little touches such a the toiletries, chocolate in the room. The quality of the finish in the en-suit and the mattress on the bed was unbelievably comfortable. We ate in the restaurant in the pub and the food was perfection along with the breakfast the next morning, again nice touches made the difference.

We had a wonderful stay at the Durham ox. We loved the location, the room was quirky and very comfortable and the food delicious. Breakfast was also excellent. We will definitely be back.

Lovely Hotel
We stayed in a cottage that was at the rear of the hotel. It was a pleasant and quiet place to stay for the night. We booked evening meal at the hotel but when we arrived our table wasn't free so we were placed in the bar. Equally nice I think. The food was excellent and worth going back for. There is little else in the village so it is a good based for seeing the area rather than a destination in its own right.
