Weekend in city

Posted 06-Dec-2016
Pros: Hotel was ideally located within walking distance of everything. Comfortable minimalist room. Friendly staff.
Cons: No the hotel was as advertised
Location: York has many historic sights, all on the doorstep of this hotel. The hotel was very close to Cliffords Tower and the York museum.
Very enjoyable return visit to York to enjoy the Christmas market.

Friendly staff but feel overprice

Friendly welcome on arrival. Not a great nights sleep as woken every 2 hours with the fire alarm going off. Would have received no apology if we hadn't mentioned lack of sleep.

To all at 53

Posted 26-Nov-2016
Pros: Cleanliness, location, staff and the food
Cons: It would be hard to improve anything
Location: Near centre of the wonderful city of York. And easy access around the area.As every body knows there is lots to do in York and then some
I booked this hotel never visited it before and with a recent bad experience elsewhere we were a bit hesitant and apprehensive. Well what a delight it was to be greated by very friendly staff at the reception. They helped us every way that they could. The room was miminalistic but very clean and welcoming. Had evening meal first night and the staff made you feel as though you were the most important guests there. The food was to die for first rate and we'll presented, good value for money and most of all HOT which to be fair I personally dislike cold plates and cold food. Breakfast was the same very intentive staff . Checking out was easy and efficient. I would recommend the Hotel 53 to anyone and I do not say this lightly as I am very fastidious and like things right. Thank you for a wonderful stay

One parent with 2 children

Posted 05-Nov-2016
Pros: It's conveniently situated
Cons: Car parking charges. Cramped room.
Location: Great location for the castle museum, Clifford's tower and dungeons. Only a short walk to the main city streets with loads of cafes, bars, restraunts
Overall the hotel was adequate for our requirements. We checked in early but couldn't access the room til 3pm so we spent the time strolling around the beautiful city and had an amazing sushi lunch. The family room had a double and a sofa bed, but it made the room a bit cramped even though there was only 3 of us. The beds weren't particularly comfortable either, but it was clean. The room was a bit noisy as well, but it's across the road from a weatherspoons and there's not much to be done about that. We didn't stay for breakfast as it would jave incurred an additional cost of £8 per adult and £5 per child which didn't inspire me considering all the wonderful little cafes and pancake houses within a few minutes walk. The car parking charge is quite steep as well, £10 which only takes you until 11am on the day of checkout. I had to pay another £5 to stay only another couple of hours as we were prebooked into the dungeons for 11am. I did mention that it would only be another couple of hours to the reception staff but she was adamant that I had to pay the extra £5 in order to avoid a penalty. Given the nuisance of moving my car a few hundred feet up the road with 2 children in tow I just paid the additional cost. It's a shame the staff didn't appear to have any powers of discretion in this instance.

Amazing staff, good value

Posted 25-Oct-2016
Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff! We got engaged in york and laszlo was amazing getting us the champagne and making us feel so welcome. The hotel is close to town and really easy to get around.
Cons: Well i guess if the restaurant was open at weekends but there is a weatherspoons directly oposite!!
Location: Not far from the castle, the start of the walls are just behind, hotel quiet and really restful sleep
