A Magical Christmas Stay at Cefnaire – A Perfect Family Retreat! We spent our Christmas week at Cefnaire in Powys, Wales, and it was an unforgettable experience! The property was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a perfect family holiday. The well-equipped kitchen was a highlight, making cooking festive meals a breeze. With two ensuite bedrooms and a large family bathroom, there was plenty of space for everyone. The hot tub was a fantastic touch – perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The festive decorations made the place feel extra special, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.Newtown, the nearby town, was charming and full of character. We loved wandering through its quaint streets, finding local shops, cafes, and scenic spots. It had all the essentials too – supermarkets, takeaways, and everything we needed for any forgotten items. Our host was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Even while tending to his farm, he made sure we had everything we needed and was always available if we had questions. The thoughtful arrival gifts were a lovely touch that made us feel right at home.Cefnaire offered the perfect combination of comfort, space, and luxury, making it the ideal spot for our Christmas getaway. We can’t wait to return!
HI there,
I am writing about our stay at your holiday home, Cefnaire, Newtown.
Firstly, the positives.
* Chris and Cathy (and family) were lovely and extremely helpful, whenever we needed anything they were there to sort it or at the end of the line.
* The grounds to the house were well kept and a great size for the family. The hot tub was a great addition to the garden - we did take a gazebo to keep it covered though in the rain.
* Size of the rooms were great and plenty of space for the whole family.
* Good location, easy walking distance to town.
*Nice bottle of bubbly and chocs on arrival.
The problems we had.
*The house needed a LOT of TLC, there was lots of things broken - most curtain poles were broken - either the top part fell off-or the tie backs were hanging off.
*Only 1 room had a mirror and that was broken
*The rooms were extremely bare, they only had 1 lamp at side of beds but pictures showed 2.
*When i hooked my jumper up in wardrobe the hook fell out of the wall
*The shower broke on day 1 - fell off holder and it was clear that it had been glued several times
*Bathroom lacked any shelving area to put toothbrushes, no towel rails.
*Pillows were so thin, needed 4 to make 1!
*TV's were shocking they rarely worked, kept checking for signals/sound system in cinema room was awful, very crackly. Needed a set of instructions leaving for guests instead of us having to call owners.
*Kitchen utensils were broken - cheese grater was already cracked and broke on our 1st use,
*No big cooking dishes - wanted to make a family lasagne but had to use 3 small pyrex dishes
* Kitchen had no blinds or curtains which wasn't great during the evening when the lights were on as the other holiday cottage could see in.
*No games/DVDs for families - We go to holiday house every year and pay similar price, they are normally well equipped for families
It is a real shame as not a lot of money needs to be spent to improve this house, just time, care and attention. Like i have mentioned we do this on a regular basis and sadly for the price, we wouldn't return.
Thank you
Paula Holt (daughter of Susan Buffel who booked.)
