It is one of very few original 1940's cottages that still remain in Corona del Mar - A charming piece of history, upgraded with all of the modern amenities and comfortable luxuries that one might need. Enjoy coffee on the front patio while you watch countless birds and butterflies compete for the unique and beautiful garden flowers. Or sink in to the comfortable day-bed on your private side patio, while you enjoy a glass of wine and relax to the sounds of the water garden. Both yards are Certified Backyard Wildlife Habitats, designed to attract native hummingbirds, songbirds and butterflies in abundance. Because this is an original 1940s property that has not been altered structurally, some aspects of the layout could present mobility issues. (Specifically, most of the original doors are under 28” wide, and the garden entrance has uneven natural stepping stones and front steps leading to the cottage.) REGARDING COVID-19 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: As any of our repeat guests will confirm, we have always taken cleaning of our cottages between guests to a rather "extreme" level! The three main cleaning agents that we use for hard surfaces are 70% Isopropyl alcohol, 8% Hydrogen Peroxide and chlorine bleach, and for soft surfaces, 90% Isopropyl alcohol and steam cleaning. All bedding, (not just sheets) including blankets and comforter covers, protective pillow case covers, are changed between guests. Pillows and comforters are tumbled in the dryer on high heat for a minimum of 15 minutes before changing pillow case covers and putting on clean pillow cases and sheets. All soft surfaces of headboard and bed frame are sprayed with alcohol and allowed to dry. IF YOU ARE A HIGH-RISK INDIVIDUAL, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU DISCUSS YOUR TRAVEL PLANS WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN PRIOR TO BOOKING! Although we have created a sterile environment inside, we cannot control the environment outside your door. It’s a gorgeous property inside and out, and Alys really goes out of her way to make sure her guests are happy. We loved the outdoor spaces, especially the front patio where we could watch the busy hummingbirds. The cottage was very clean even by COVID standards. It has a good kitchen, comfortable beds and furniture, and a great jet tub. Perfect for a couple, we sat outside every evening under Elise’s fairy lights. The koi fish were mesmerizing, and while we were there the butterflies bloomed and filled the garden. It is in a good location, walking distance to Whole Foods for meals during social distancing, easy drive to the freeway, and a good walking neighborhood including a park and trail. This cottage is truly a gem! We loved everything about it! We stayed 4 nights on the tail end of our honeymoon, and let me say, it was tough to leave!!! The owner was so helpful and easy to work with. She did not miss a thing, when setting up this rental! It is better appointed than a 5 star hotel! The interior is inviting, with really beautiful furniture. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom was a perfect set up! The exterior is like something out of a dream! AMAZING landscaping! The cottage location is prime; minutes from the beach, freeways, parks, hiking, and shopping (Fashion Island to Trader Joes). The garden and koy pond were icing on the cake. A beautiful variety of plants and butterflies made this a relaxing and peaceful stay. With so much to do in the CDM/Newport Beach area, we actually enjoyed spending time at the cottage. This one is incredibly unique because it combines excellent living and sleeping spaces with a gorgeous front patio and a private side garden complete with lush plants and a koi stream. We loved the side garden for morning coffee and for late evening relaxing. The front patio, with chairs and umbrella, was perfect for reading and the occasional nap. My sister and I planned a five-day beach getaway and this charming cottage was ideal for our minimal needs. Its location in CDM is perfect for a quick drive to the beach (we chose to spend our days at Crystal Cove SB ) or walkable to CDM beaches, if you don’t have a lot of gear. Beach chairs and towels are provided. Parking in front of cottage is easy and the neighborhood is peaceful, safe and a pleasant short walk to all stores, shops, restaurants. It is a good base to explore OC. Alys was over the top in accommodating us and we appreciated all she provided for us or would provide for us, if we needed anything. Communication was excellent throughout our stay. Cottage is tastefully decorated, kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with goodies upon arrival, heavenly CalKing Tempurpedic bed super comfortable and lots of fluffy, clean white towels and bath amenities provided. Wifi excellent, Direct TV with streaming stations to watch an evening movie. We did not use the pull out sofa for sleeping so cannot comment on that though we would say that this cottage is best suited for two people. What makes this cottage special is all the creative work Alys has put into her nature garden. There is a semiprivate side garden with all types of exotic and tropical plants, a Koi pond and a soothing water feature. It created a serene extension of the cottage. The front of the cottage has a great sitting patio also nicely landscaped. Butterflies everywhere! We would highly recommend this rental if you are looking for a quick getaway, like to spend your day at the beach or exploring, prefer not to cook ( great local food shops to pick up prepared meals ) and simply need a peaceful retreat and a great night’s sleep at the end of your day. Excellent value compared to a hotel suite (which was our original plan). We would definitely return. ##### Patricia R. Beautifully decorated and appointed down to the smallest detail. The landscaping is lush, unique, exotic - I have never seen so many butterflies in one place! There was always abundant street parking in front. The space is extremely clean, tidy, and fully stocked.
