After viewing the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, a short walk and climb down some stairs brings one to the tide pools. At low tide people can walk carefully around the multiple tide pools and spot many various sea creatures. Starfish and octopus are a favorite to find. It’s not a place for unbalanced persons....they actually have a few falls each day.

The tide pools are fun to explore but your footing must be steady. There's lots to see when the tide is out, plus the lighthouse is at the top of the cliff, along with nesting birds.

Viewed from the lighthouse path you can see large colonies of common murres, cormorants and a few seagulls, on top of haystacks nesting. During June the mother pushes the chick into the ocean where their dad is waiting below to teach them to swim and hunt. Many don't make the ocean....it's a long fall down.

The tide was just right, and we climbed down the cliff to the beach. This view of the lighthouse framed by the rocks with the pelicans basking in the sun made for an interesting perspective.
