Boat launch is just .5 miles away! Launch the boat and dock it at your private dock in Squantz Pond. Or, you can go down the road a bit to Candlewood Lake where there is also a boat launch. Just remember, Squantz Pond and Candlewood Lake do not connect.
The living rooms 65 inch smart TV is complete with all the apps you need to sign in & watch for your entertainment! The sound bar and subwoofer are great for movie nights.
Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, wine openers, coffee maker, Keurig, blender, crockpot, belgian waffle maker, toaster, spices, pots, pans, wine, champagne glasses and more.
The center of town in New Fairfield is just down the road. Stop & Shop grocery store, deli’s, liquor store, bars, & restaurants.
This property has a 2nd cottage completely separate from this main house to the right on the same land, the total property in 2.8 acres each having 1.4 acres. Which is also a rental on VRBO, so other guests may be seen or pass through to access the kayaks and/or boat dock. The dock accommodates 2 boats so there is no problem if the other guest happens to be there at the same time with their boat - but that is an extremely rare occurrence.

The house was exactly as listed. The interior has been updated, creating a clean, cozy look and feel. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was clean. The communication was very good, all questions were answered, and the check in and check out instructions were clear. I would recommend this property.
We were very happy with the accommodations. The cottage was neat, clean and well kept, as was the property. All the amenities were as described. We had a great weekend and would highly recommend this lake house.
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is walking distance from the lake and a good break for anyone trying to escape the bustle of NYC. The house was very clean and we felt safe and comfortable here’s the outdoor fire pit was a very nice touch.
My family and I stayed here for a few days while skiing at Thunder Ridge. Would definitely come back in the spring or summer to enjoy kayaking on the pond and hiking along local trails. Highly recommend this cottage.
I was pleasantly surprised! The house looked even better in person than it did in the photos. It is warm and comfortable and they had everything we needed to enjoy our time away. The house was clean and the surrounding property was well maintained. I would love to come back in the spring/summer to enjoy more of the outdoors.
We stayed here for work event and the location was perfect. Not too close, not too far away. Its snowed one evening but the driveway was not slippery at all. The house was very clean and kept in order. Plenty of room in the bedrooms and bathroom. The operational fireplace was also an added bonus.
We took a last minute trip to end the summer. House was very clean - small cottage but functional. The house is across the street from the waterfront. Canoes and dock were enjoyed by all. They are shared with the neighboring property, but there were plenty of canoes, paddles, life preservers, etc. Owners were very respondent. Recommended.
Everything was great except the key pad. Many times I couldn’t lock the house when I left and I couldn’t open it a couple of times. Otherwise the house is adorable, comfortable and clean.
Check-in was easy! Photos were misleading--there is lake access quite close by but it's across a busy road, so it wasn't as quiet or peaceful as I'd anticipated. House had all that we needed, including some leftover propane for the grill (owners do not provide due to previous issues). Washer and dryer a bit old but functional. Shampoo and soaps on the budget side. Mattresses were comfortable. Overall, the house was nice, clean, and comfortable, but it definitely felt like a property used for vacation rentals in that it lacked some personal touches--I don't think the owners have ever stayed there. Could use a little more seating in the living room and kitchen seating would be better if it weren't benches. I felt that it cost too much for what it was, and I felt a bit duped by the photos.

The property was difficult to locate, though Katherine was very responsive and easy to reach for directions. The Google location could use an update to make finding it easier. The listing is somewhat misleading, as it gives the impression that the water is directly accessible from the property. In reality, you need to go down a very steep hill, cross a busy street, and descend unstable stairs to reach it. Using the kayaks would require carrying them down that hill and hauling them back up again, which isn’t practical. The yard was overgrown and not maintained, though the interior was clean and the beds were comfortable. It’s clear the house was flipped quickly, with little attention to detail. Road noise was noticeable at night, which made sleeping a bit difficult. Overall, the stay was fine, but there are several things future guests should be aware of.
Great stay. Cottage is as pictured, and was very clean when we arrived. Check in was c easy as well. Someone in the main house at the same time we were in the cottage, but was never an issue with privacy. Pros: Views from cottage were beautiful. Especially at sunrise! Make sure to get up and go outside by the hammock. Plenty of hiking nearby, or main street type area. Even just driving and taking the fall scenery in was great. Make sure to do Pootatuck Forest and get to the overlook of Candlwood Lake- blue trail is longer and tougher than orange trail. Also want to mention that Eric and Katherine were responsive to issues we had. They quickly rectified a missing coffee maker and cookware that was unusable by door dashing a new coffee maker and cookware set so that our stay was enjoyable. They went above and beyond by doing this.Cons: We didn't realize a busy road was at the base of the driveway, but that could have been missed when we went through the listing, as we booked this last minute. Traffic noise was only an issue if outside, but not terrible when inside. Screened in porch could use an update- maybe an area rug for a more homier feel.
Eric’s place was cozy and clean with all amenities we needed. Bedrooms were cozy and roomy with comfortable mattresses. The full kitchen and Smart Tv rounded out a comfy, relaxed evening to drink wine and eat snacks from the nearby Stop and Shop. Unfortunately we could not use the beautiful fireplace due to the red flag warnings but it is a gorgeous focal piece! Our only issues were the directions on the VRBO site led us to a nearby property instead of the rental. We called the property manager and she gave us a landmark of an eagle lawn ornament which marked the actual property perfectly. We’d suggest putting that in the rental info online. Also the pictures suggest The cabin is waterfront and the lake is across a busy street. SPECTACULAR view but not quite accurate. Of course all in all we had a wonderful time at Eric’s place!
The beds and couch were comfortable! The kitchen had basic necessities, however you may need to reconsider meals if doing some serious chopping/cutting (ex sweet potatoes) d/t knife quality. If you are a fan sleeper add that to your packing list. Overall the stay was amazing with great views and helpful hosts!
Property was clean and looked exactly as displayed in the photos. Dock for swimming and kayaking is of good size and good condition. Good variety of outdoor places to sit between screened porch and outdoor fire pit plus outdoor and indoor family games to play. Access was easy and everything worked as expected. We enjoyed our stay at the lake house and would definitely go back again and recommend to others. The cottage provided our family with a nice relaxing getaway which was exactly what we were looking for.
The house was very nice, clean and had everything as explained. I definitely got a workout getting from the house to the dock. That was the only drawback. Even though we spent everyday on the dock or in the pond. Our hosts were available if we needed any thing but they actually have everything you need there.
Great stay to be so close to the lake. Provided plenty of lake accessories so you would need to pack minimal equipment. The pictures are a little deceiving as you are on top of a steep hill with Route 39 (which is busy) between the house and dock. We brought our dogs who are well behaved and stay pretty close. I would be concerned if my dog did not have good recall or young children. However, being situated on top of the hill provides a nice view!

property is overhyped
Photos make it appear to be on the water, but it is up a steep hill and across a busy road.
Main and only complaint was that had to keep playing with the handle of the toilet every time flushed or it would keep running. Very annoying. And just felt food items. ( pancake mix ect) should be tossed. Safety and health purposes . Otherwise very enjoyable. Stay
Wonderful House with Beautiful Views and Pond Access
What a fantastic property! The house was immaculate and beautifully decorated with gorgeous pond views. Outside was perfect for kids, with plenty of play space, a fire pit, outdoor lighting, and a grill. The icing on the cake was the dock and kayaks. We spent hours fishing, swimming, and kayaking. We also rented a paddleboard from Candlewood Kayak Rental, which was 2 minutes down the road (they delivered, which was very convenient). The location was also perfect. Very close to parks, beaches, and the center of New Fairfield, which has restaurants, shops, and s Stop & Shop. Our hosts were phenomenal as well!! Very warm and welcoming and just a text away if we needed anything. I highly recommend this property. We'll definitely be back! My kids were sad to have to leave :)

Property not as described. We enjoyed our stay with the cottage's wonderful view of Squantz pond, but a lot was misrepresented in the property description. The property was not child friendly: no kids games, books, dinnerware, nor playground. Bunkbeds did not have safety railings and a very steep front yard led directly a busy road. To access the lake you need to cross a dangerous road and go down a precarious path. This made actually using the kayaks a very serious challenge (and potentially dangerous). The property was also not cleaned when we arrived despite a 4pm check-in. We contacted the property manager who resolved this, but we were still unable to use the property until 6pm. Additionally, there was a bug problem during our stay with ants, flies, and cockroaches being found in all rooms during our stay.Despite these issues, we did actually have a nice time and enjoyed our stay. However, we thought that the property wasn't worth what we paid and suspect the property managers don't actually visit the home or understand its needs and issues.
