An annual holiday is a must here, perfect for couples, friends or a small family. Set all on the ground floor, it has a covered outdoor patio area, large Smart TV, full surround system and TVs in each bedroom. Valhallah Cottage Retreat is only 3 miles from the popular seaside small town of Amble which has a selection of small restaurants and cafés set along the harbour. Some sell seafood and have outdoor seating, so you can sit and watch the boats and the activity along some of the harbour. Sundays are popular with a market in the mornings with the locals and visitors enjoying a stroll amongst the stalls with a fresh fish and meat van. A variety of small pods are home to local business offering bespoke goods, lovely to spend a few minutes on a sunny day. Warkworth Castle is only 4 miles, sat at the top of the hill overlooking bespoke shops, lovely tea rooms and friendly pubs it is a lovely place for a lunch or evening meal. Alnwick is a 20-minute drive and home to the famous castle used for some scenes in Downton Abbey and Harry Potter, the cobbled streets and history make for a special day out. Further north up the coast are the popular villages of Craster, Beadnell and Bamburgh and of course Holy Island all make a wonderful day trip soaking in the friendly atmosphere, chatting to some of the locals and enjoying some great Northumbrian hospitality. There is a lovely country park, with lake and beach about ten minutes away in the car, but also walkable from the cottage. Check for events at the Country park as the main car park by the cafe/visitors centre can be closed to cater for the event. There is a small shopping centre nearby as well, walkable, but with a car park. The cottage is next to the owners and goes into their garden. The bedrooms windows do look into their property, but with blinds you can have privacy. In the summer these don’t block the light out fully. The bedrooms tv’s stand on top of the drawers, cutting down on somewhere to put hairbrushes etc. The bathroom has a lovely walk in shower, the fan isn’t powerful enough to get rid of the steam and the window opens, but onto the owners garden. It would have been better having the top window open, not the bottom one. It is missing a shaving/magnifying mirror and shaver point and the sink sits high, so young children would need something to stand on. The sofa in the lounge area is ok for two, four would struggle to get comfy, due to the shape of it. The kitchen has plenty of space for storage, just be careful with the taps they sit high and the spray will hit the sink and spray all over. There is a lovely outdoor seating area with hot tub, which is under cover. There is another covered area by the door, with a sofa, coffee table which is nice and sheltered.The welcome pack is all local produce, which is nice. The owners give you a warm welcome and are quick to respond to queries if you have any. The niggles are tv’s in the bedrooms (which we never have on) would be better on the wall. Shaving/ magnifying mirror in the bathroom (as you get older these are useful to have), top window opening in the bathroom, not the main one. Curtains in the bedroom to block the early morning light out more.
