We booked the La Gourmandine as an overnight stay on our way back to Caen to catch the ferry home. Our room, the Baldaquin, complete with a very comfortable four poster bed, was delightful and tastefully decorated. There was sufficient and secure parking. The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. We had an excellent evening meal at the nearby ‘arlequine. On our return to the hotel we enjoyed drinks in the comfortably furnished bar. In the morning breakfast was excellent with a wide selection to choose from. Little did we know that it is very difficult for us to get Taxis in Chatellerault. This hotel's staff has kindly picked us up on the first day from the train station as we couldn't get any Taxi to the hotel. They helped us arrange Taxis on Saturday. As it was impossible for us to get a taxi on Sunday, they have decided to drop us at the train station, again. This is now the different staff who is working there. How kind!…Little did we know that it is very difficult for us to get Taxis in Chatellerault. We had a great time at this property, Lisa is lovely and we made use of her pool which had nice sun loungers for sitting in the sun. The location is great, we enjoyed walking into Pluemartin (along the road but it is not busy) and would definitely recommend the boulangerie there and the little market. Also great for visiting La Roche Possay and other lovely small towns in the area.…
