My husband and I came into town for a wedding. Most of our family was staying there. We booked through Expedia which was our first mistake. We wanted a balcony and they offer ones that look over the pool. The gates acquired a motel (not sure when), so there is a significant difference in one side of the hotel versus the other. Our original room was in the motel side, the second we walked in there was such a strong smell of bleach that I got a headache. When downstairs at the desk I asked to switch rooms, they said we couldn’t until I said I wanted a refund and would find somewhere else to stay, they then suddenly had another room available. It was ok- very, very small. Set up completely differently than our families rooms. The hotel is directly on ocean drive, so when you’re in the pool anyone walking by can see you. The pool was blah, the grounds were dirty, the lobby was very dark. The restaurant is good and the staff there were wonderful. The location was great, right across from the 1 hotel and other high end hotels with great bars and restaurants. The gated beach access is about 4 blocks away, the chairs at the beach are so close to eachother that all the guests were literally piled in like sardines. Overall if our family wasn’t staying there we would have left. This is more of a one night place, lots of pilots and stewardess, in and out. It seems like you’re saving money but you really aren’t. Better to spend more on a nicer hotel right on the beach. I do not recommend.
