We had a terrible experience when staying at the Newport Beachside. Upon our arrival, we noticed that the hotel was very old and had live animals for display, very unsettling. Then we noticed that the hotel was under extensive rennovations, which transalted in multiple social areas being unavailable, forcing us to look for other places to eat and dine. Once in our bedroom, we were extremely dissapointed on what we got: old furniture, unadequate lighting, courtains didn't function properly, and the bathroom was very humid without active ventilation.
The bed was ok, but the couch was very old and we preferred not to use it (the only place to sit beside the bed).
Having that unsatisfactory experience in our room, we headed to the beach. There, the staff was very gentle and indicated what chaise lounge we could use, HOWEVER, the umbrella wasn't included and we had to pay extra for it, REGARDLESS of already having to pay for a "resort fee" that included the chair and towel. The umbrella fee wasn't high, but it is predatory having to pay for an add-on that allows you to enjoy what you already paid for. The next day wasn't much better when the security rep was very rude when asking for proof to go into the pool area, and inquiring about food and drinks.
