What You Actually Get
Two bedrooms cover most travel styles — a splittable king and a queen, both with quality linen and mirrored robes, because someone always forgets to pack enough hangers. The study has its own door, which sounds like a small thing until you're on a work call and someone else in the apartment wants the TV on. Downstairs, the private courtyard has a marble-topped table with seating for six, and up on the 6th floor there's a shared rooftop spa, BBQ and garden with proper Melbourne skyline views — a genuinely good spot for a sunset drink, or a very smug Instagram story. The kitchen is fully equipped, there's a coffee machine, a 55" Smart TV with Netflix, and the kind of thoughtful extras — a clothes airer, step ladder, extra blankets, decent hangers — that only show up when someone's actually thought about what a longer stay needs.

The Location, Without the Spin
Auburn Station is a 3-minute stroll, and from there it's four stops to Flinders Street — the CBD without the CBD price tag or the CBD noise. Hawthorn East has kept its village feel, leafy and a bit polished, with good cafés, bars and boutique shopping close by, none of it trying too hard. Camberwell Junction, with its market, cinema and eateries, isn't far, and Auburn Road's eclectic little strip is right on your doorstep. Trains, trams and buses cover the rest, and the Free Tram Zone is just a few stops away if you'd rather explore the city for free than pay for the privilege.

Where to Eat (We've Actually Been)
Porgie + Mr Jones, Auburn Rd — the brunch institution on this strip, doing the classics properly rather than chasing trends. Weekday mornings are the sweet spot, before the rest of the suburb turns up.
San Lorenzo, Glenferrie Rd — the Italian anchor of the area, in-house pasta and a wood-fired pizza worth the short walk.
Fiorelli, Auburn Rd — feels more expensive than it is, which is exactly the kind of restaurant worth knowing about.
Light Years, Auburn Rd — a little off the beaten path, but worth the detour for breakfast.
Charcoal Grill on the Hill, Auburn Rd — for when only a proper steak will do, and it usually will.
