My husband and I have put our blood, sweat and tears into decorating, landscaping, and adding unique touches all our "Mad Men Vacation Rentals" properties: Mad Men Beach House in Ocean City, Maryland, Mad Men Magic Kingdom House in Kissimmee, Florida, and now Mad Men Lake House at Deep Creek Lake, in McHenry, Maryland. Carved in the quiet mountains of western Maryland, Deep Creek Lake is a unique, four-season destination. Deep Creek Lake is the largest inland body of water in the state of Maryland, covering approximately 3,900 acres and having 69 miles of shoreline. The mountain climate, usually about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of Maryland, gives our area four distinct seasons with plenty of adventure and action for each. Summer days are filled with sunshine and shimmering water as boats, jet-skis and other water-goers glide across the waters. Deep Creek Lake is a fisherman's paradise, abundant with native and stocked fish, including large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, trout, yellow perch and sunfish. The current Maryland state records for bluegill, northern pike and yellow perch were all caught in Deep Creek Lake. Come winter, the higher elevated landscape is covered in a brilliant white blanket, providing amazing skiing conditions for Wisp Ski Resort. Winter anglers can ply their skill at ice fishing! This mountainous, wooded area boasts several of Maryland's most popular state parks which offer beautiful hiking and snow-shoeing trails, a large sandy beach for swimming on the lake, or gazing at the tallest free-falling waterfall in Maryland. We're also just upstream from the famous Youghiogheny River, well-known for mind-blowing white-water rafting trips. Mad Men Lake House is located in the prestigious "Waterside at Wisp" resort community and the name says it all. Less than 2 miles down the road from the region's best skiing at Wisp Ski Resort, we're also a lake front property with all the advantages of waterside living. It's truly the best location in all of Deep Creek Lake for your vacation! Of course, there are an assortment of restaurants and bars only a few miles away for those time you want to venture out for a night on the town! •Guests have full access to the home, deck, dock, hot tub, 2 kayaks, and one canoe. Swimming and fishing are permitted from our private dock - fishing license required. A 7-day fishing permit is available at - https://compass.dnr.maryland.gov/dnrcompassportal. Bath towels and linens are provided. A starter kit for paper products and trash bags is also provided. • Guest have full access of the parking pad for 6 cars maximum. Extra parking is available at the top of the driveway as long as it is 6 feet from the road for emergency vehicles. All Wheel Drive cars are necessary in the winter months and during any snow, ice or sleet weather. All Wheel Drive is recommended all year round but defiantly necessary in the winter months. A boat trailer is considered one vehicle in the 6 car max limit. • Family-Friendly Amenities include a booster/highchair seat, pack-and-play, some toys, Bumbo, board games and puzzles. Uber and Lyft will often have the best rates for transportation in and around Deep Creek. If you run out of anything, there are grocery and variety stores nearby. •There is a flight of stairs to get down to the path to get down to the dock. The path has a moderate to steep incline. In our guidebook we give to all our guests there is a picture under the tab:"Walking down to the dock WARNING" . •The driveway is steep and curvy. All Wheel Drive cars are necessary in the winter months. •The dock goes in sometime between mid April to early May. It is different every year and we don't know when until its there! It is removed at the end of October. We do share the dock with our next door neighbor and their guests. Facing the lake they get the right side to dock their boat. We get the left side. There is space for two motorized vehicles for us and two for them. We also have our own ladder to get in and out of the lake on the right side. • • We also provide a gas grill at no extra charge for its use (unlike many places). We simply ask you to please leave it in decent condition to avoid a $50 cleaning fee. Thanks! • There is absolutely NO SMOKING ON THE PREMISES and NO PARTIES ALLOWED! If you want a party site, find another place! Immediate eviction with \*\* NO REFUND \*\* will result if there is a party on the property! Our property manager and neighbors WILL let us know if a party is happening and we WILL call the police! • If you're new to vacationing at Deep Creek Lake, you're probably new to our wildlife! It's not unusual to see a bald eagle soaring overhead, a heron searching the shallows for fish, or a deer browsing through the woods. In the evenings, a rare treat is hearing the call of the loon on the lake! You may see a bear down by the shore, or hear the strange call of a fox at night. Squirrels are frequent visitors and an occasional groundhog, raccoon or opossum might be seen scuttling through the ferns. • This is very important!! Because you're in the mountains, trash must be disposed of correctly to avoid attracting bears. ALL trash must be placed IN TRASH BAGS TIED TIGHT and put in the special bear-proof trash container at the top of the hill. NEVER leave trash outside! Bears have an incredible sense of smell and they will find it and make a colossal mess and then keep returning for more! • Then there are the small wildlife that aren't so fun, namely mice and bugs. Mice are common in the mountains of course and sometimes make their way inside. Please let me know immediately if you spot any mice or their droppings in the house. Ants and house flies will be attracted if you don't dispose of your trash appropriately by putting all trash in bags, tying tightly and preventing trash overflow. The best way to keep them away is to not leave doors open or food out; sweep up after meals and wipe the counters clean! • If you are interested in using the movie screen and projector during your stay, an agreement must be signed 24 hours prior to check in date. •This is a 2,860 square foot home. If you are used to staying in 4 and 5,000 + square foot homes in Deep Creek, we just want you to have the right expectations when staying with us. We send. you the property video after your booking so you can get a better idea of the space and what we have to offer! • I'm sorry, but early check in's and late check out's cannot be accommodated due to the pandemic. Our cleaners need their entire time to have the house adequately cleaned and sanitized for upcoming guests. • Please read the complete set of rules to ensure you will have a safe, fun, pleasant and comfortable stay at our home! • We offer a total of 4 smart TV's and one additional projector. There is a TV in master suite one and two. There is a TV in the game room and in the living room. The projector screen can be taken into any bedroom and projected on the wall which acts as a smart TV but it is not hooked to cable. So ONLY the two master suites have TV's. We stayed at Mad men lake house for our Easter holiday. The driveway was steep. But, that was clearly stated in listing. Upon arrival they had fun mountain music playing. It was so cozy. My kids loved the game room/ping pong/ swings. Dog friendly...which I love! Some of the furniture was worn. But, we don't mind a little cozynes! All in all we would stay here again! ##### Laura S. It was sort of like a magical time with kayaking, fires in the fire pit and living room, lounging, cooking with state of the art appliances, and a game room for the kids. We happened to have a great weather weekend which enhanced and allowed for additional experiences in the area parks. Oh, I forgot to mention the hot tub was also very nice. The beds were very comfortable, and the 6 bedrooms were a perfect fit for our group. The children loved their room that resembled a camping experience with a tree fort looking bed. The crib was perfect for the 1 year old. It must be said that the driveway is made for 4 wheel drive vehicles, and if you don’t have one, you should just park at the top of the hill. It is a steep, curvy driveway to the house. Walking to the lake is a steep grade as well, just us old folks had difficulty navigating that hill, but we still managed to make it down there to the Adirondack chairs waiting for us lakeside. Great memories were made and the owners, Rebecca has excellent communication skills and offers a lovely atmosphere and experience to be had. We loved the decorative features, so tasteful and fresh, and exactly as pictured. ##### Liz S. The listing was clear about the relatively small size of the house given the large number of bedrooms, but it worked very well for our group. The house was clean, nicely furnished and well appointed with kitchen ware, an important factor as we love to cook. We have a dog so walking her somewhere safe and shaded is important, which we had on the main road to the house (not mid-day, of course). The lake channel on which the house is located is busy with boats, more so on the weekend. It also during the week, which made use of the kayaks and canoes problematic (boat wakes). Otherwise, the location worked well and it was far cooler than at home in DC due to the elevation and cooling from the lake. Bugs were minimal. Owner was very responsive and helpful. We had 4 families with us and everyone had a great time. It rained all day Saturday but we were still entertained indoors with all of games. On Friday 12/31, we even took the kayaks out. This little getaway did not disappoint! We came to spend a long weekend at Mad Men Lake House with 3 other couples and were blown away by everything! The living and dining area is bright and has a fantastic view of Deep Creek Lake. The kitchen is fully stocked and has beautiful new appliances. The beds were comfortable and the whole place was immaculate. The gas fireplace was cheery and easy to start and stop. The game room had something for everyone and we really enjoyed playing ping pong on the deck. We took a side trip to Swallow Falls Park and the falls were beautiful! They said it was like an arcade but they didn’t have to pay! My husband and I stayed in the “wisp room“ and absolutely loved the ski lift chair! My grandchildren were mesmerized by the camp room when the lights were turned out and they started seeing stars on the ceiling! I love how the kitchen and family room or open space and you can be involved with the group while you’re cooking. Plus a gift basket full of goodie! We loved the location. It was close to Wisp, Hiking, Escape Room and a great Brewery. House had so many special notes with excellent instructions and attention to detail with quality furniture inside and out. The deck was brand new. The beds were all very comfortable. The linens also were very nice and plush. The kitchen was very well appointed also! It was a special week for all of us and we look forward to trying other Mad Men Vacation Homes in the future. The amount of considerate detail and special touch that went into it, is obvious when you look at anything in the house. So much thought went into the littlest details. One of my favorite parts about the house was the comfy beds. I've honestly never stayed in a bed this comfy and nice. That includes the blankets and sheets. Comfy pillows and towels. I also loved the turquoise blue fireplace downstairs. It was so beautiful and gave it a cozy feel. The view is to die for. From the bottom deck, from the great room, and from the top deck. Loved it! The house and owner's response to every detail far exceeded our expectations - Cleanliness, spaciousness for nine adults and three kiddos, and proximity to lake were key to making this our favorite Deep Creek rental house ever. Special touches like a personalized welcome sign along with welcome music greeted us like old friends returning home. Well equipped kitchen, game room, private dock and beautiful lake views from the hot tub were all pluses. The tree house themed kids' room with bunk beds and trundle created a perfect retreat for the grandkids. Thank you, Rebecca, for making this a memorable trip for the entire family!
