It located close to the border with Spain and close to the beautiful Cote Vermeille Mediterranean coastline. Book it as your base, and come and explore this area around Maureillas and Ceret in the Languedoc-Roussillon, one of the lesser known regions of France. There is so much to see and do, or just relax with a glass of wine round the pool in the vineyards or at the beach... The villa is centred on 1/2 an acre of gardens with a large swimming pool big enough to play in, and with a proper deep end (1.8m). Parking is available for several cars on the drive. The layout is mostly open plan with the kitchen giving onto two separate dining areas, and two lounge areas. Most rooms, including three of the bedrooms, have double doors onto an outside terrace giving a light and airy feel to the place. There is also the outside 'room', with table and parasol seating 10, and Dancook coal barbecue for entertaining alfresco on those long summer days. The property is equally attractive in winter with TV/selection of DVDs, log burning fire, books, board games and jigsaws. There are 2 double bedrooms and 3 twins, which makes the house ideal for 2 families wishing to holiday together or a group of couples or friends enjoying a house party together.The master double has a spacious en suite shower room featuring a large 'wet room' shower, wash hand basin and toilet. The second double and one of the twins share the family bathroom, featuring bath, separate shower, his 'n hers basins, bidet and wc. Up a timber spiral staircase you will find 2 twin bedrooms sharing a shower room with shower, basin and wc. Access to the property is via an attractive external staircase to reach the upper terrace and front door. It is therefore not appropriate for anyone requiring disabled access. The property nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees and is built into the side of the hill, so what is ground floor level at the rear of the property is first floor at the front. There were 9 of us ranging in age from 17 to 81\. The house is huge and there was more than enough space for us all. It was very hot in the first week so we got a lot of use out of the pool. It is a lovely pool, deep enough to dive into and bigger than it looks on the picture. There is plenty of outdoor space, with an outdoor eating area at the back of the house and seating and a coffee table at the front. The Wi-Fi worked well which was a big plus for the younger members of the party! We ate at El Tap, the bar in the village a few times- lovely tapas and very friendly and helpful staff! We also went into Ceret and Collioure for evening meals. Collioure is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. We also visited Argeles, Banyuls-sur-Mer and went over the border to Roses. All were easy to get to. The village shops and bar are all in easy walking distance. The nearest large supermarket was in Ceret, about 10 min away in the car. The house is spacious and well appointed and the fibre internet kept our teenage daughter happy…! There is air-con in the upstairs bedroom and ping-pong and bikes you can use downstairs; along with a washing machine etc. The pool is superb! More than big enough and really deep, the pool-man comes often to keep it nice and clean. The garden gives the house total privacy and the gated drive makes everyone feel safe. The village is peaceful with a well appointed Spar and lovely Boulangerie. We were a family of five but it would easily accommodate two families. Pool was amazing, big enough to properly play and swim in and warm enough too. We found it to be very comfortable and clean. The villa has a lovely flow, with lots of space and is beautifully decorated. I particularly enjoyed the art work. We all enjoyed the pool and the table tennis and we ate on the patio every evening. We found the kitchen to be very well equipped for our needs. Some of the glasses look marked and I think it has been caused by the dishwasher but apart from that everything was fine. We also thought that it would be nice to have a couple more sun loungers as there were not enough for everyone., but again not a massive issue for our busy kids. Michael and Jane were both very helpful and responsive to issues. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely villa to future visitors. Would recommend the area too. We visited Collioure, Castelnou and had a brilliant day out at Aqua Brava water park across the border in Roses. The villa is spacious, well designed and fantastically located on the edge of Maureillas-las-Ilas. We could not have hoped for more. The kitchen and dining areas were comfortable and well equiped. The pool and outside areas were ideal for our family of 10\. We appreciated the Table Tennis and being able to use the bikes - cycling to Ceret in 25 minutes. The local village has a lovely square with 2 restaurants and a number of bars - we greatly enjoyed Catalan dancing one evening. A local lake outside St Jean Plat de Corts provided several activities for the children; zip wire, \`go-ape\`, pedalos, paddle boards and an inflatable obstacle course - great fun! Jane was very friendly and helpful with all our enquiries. We even had a local black cat befriend us and add to the sense of home and fun. We can\`t wait to come back next year. If you have any issues they are sorted immediately with the friendly staff that help out there. We are going back next year because we had such a fantastic time.
