Lost River WV-Relaxing 3br/2bath farmhouse-dog friendly- treetop deck-workspace

Constructed in 2008 and designed by famed Katrina Cottage architect Marianne Cusato, this classic, West Virginia cottage is located in Lost River is sure to warm your heart. Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, marble and glass tile baths, 9 foot ceilings and comfortable furniture provide a casual, country/lodge atmosphere. The twin bedroom upstairs has a dedicated desk to accommodate remote working with fast fiber internet. The location provides breathtaking vistas of the mountains from every window, the 8-foot deep front porch which extends the entire house as well, and a small covered back porch with even more great views. A large "treehouse deck" off the driveway provides more outdoor space for dining, and relaxing and has a large propane gas grill. This vacation home sits down a small driveway from a paved road and is surrounded by acres of nature. Within walking distance are the rest of the thousands of acres that make up the George Washington National Forest. The fenced in backyard is great for dog lovers!

From Washingtonian Magazine - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.'

'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' In winter months you are only 40 minutes from Bryce Resort and a little over an hour from Canaan Valley resort!

Three great bedrooms make the home perfect for families or couples - two rooms each with a queen bed and a third room with two twin beds. One queen bedroom is downstairs with its own bath and canopy bed (master suite). All bed linens and towels are provided. There are two full baths, one upstairs and one down. The baths have heated marble floors, glass tile walls and high-end fixtures. The cottage has both central air and heat which is dual zone for those who like to sleep with it cool but wake up to a warm downstairs. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffeemaker, etc.. There is a washer and dryer combo upstairs if you need it. Lost River is great for cyclists if you have questions about routes please reach out. We allow pets for a $100 fee per stay.

Fiber for internet- super fast, Netflix/Hulu.

Really enjoyed the property even though we didn't get a chance to fully explore all the amenities as we were busy going to Lost River SP, Seneca Rocks & Cavern, Spruce Knob, Dolly Sods & Davis WV, and Blackwater Falls SP. We enjoyed pizza from Lost & Found, eating at the Lost River Grill, and breakfast at Lost River General Store & Cafe.

I booked the cabin hoping I could see the Milky Way, and did I ever! Bring a blanket and binoculars and you will be in star-gazing heaven. The fenced yard is wonderful -- as large as a park. The house was spotlessly clean, with nice linens and towels. The house temperature was perfect - I never touched the thermostat - and I appreciated there were no mosquitoes on the property.

Mother Nature did not quite cooperate with us on the reason we visited but the house and surroundings were worth the sacrifice. Karen was exceptional in communicating all details even though our stay was brief. The house itself is very cozy, well stocked and we used the fire pit and treehouse deck every night. Apple picking at Showalters in Virginia was a blast and hiked up to the Cranny Crow overlook for that view. Cell phone service is very spotty due to the remoteness but that was a good thing! Thank you Karen.

My husband, dogs and I had a wonderful stay at the Cottage! We had rented from the previous owners before and were thrilled to learn that the Cottage would continue to be a vacation rental property. The new owner Karen was wonderful to work with from beginning to end, which made the entire experience great. She promptly returned all of my email inquiries and answered all of my random questions leading up to our stay. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well-stocked and supplies in good condition. Karen even bought new pots and pans recently for guests to use…a very nice touch, indeed! The rooms were well-sized, beds comfy and sheets clean. The heated marble floors in the bathrooms were such a luxury to step onto with bare feet, particularly during the cooler evenings. Future guests should note that the water from the house comes from a well so there is a sulfur-like smell to it. We knew of this before hand, and knew it was still safe and clean. There is a water filter installed in the kitchen sink, which we used for cooking purposes. We chose to bring in our own bottled water for drinking. The dogs loved the huge fenced-in yard and really enjoyed chasing each other around in it. We had a great time watching them sniff all of the nature surrounding them. Such a treat for city dogs and people! Looking forward to returning in the future!

My wife enjoyed the warm comfy inside air and temperature. This house has absolutely no draft. Bedroom comforter and and living room cushions might need a wash.

The listing I read stated jetted tub & hot tub but no hot tub. Prickly plant coming up from underneath side porch - lights going up the stairs outside only one works - no pen to put comments in book. Overall a quiet weekend.

The house and property was 100% as advertised. We had a wonderfully relaxing and quiet stay. The dogs loved the yard. The house was well maintained and equipped. Photos captured it all. We especially appreciated the fast Wi-Fi and all the streaming options on the TV. If you need a place to unwind and decompress for a few days, this is it.

We loved our stay here with our 2 kids under 2 and our dog. It was clean, well stocked and comfortable. The owner sent us a great email the week before with lots of information on the house and area. Our dog loved the fenced in area so he had some freedom to run around. The house is in a great location close to the Lost River State Park, Trout Pond (w/swimming access) and local farmers markets.

We wanted a quick getaway and this farmhouse fit the bill for our group. It had all the amenities we needed. The beds and couches were very comfortable. The “tree house” deck was a lovely spot for happy hour. We especially enjoyed listening to all the farm life surrounding the property from the covered porch. The house is located close to nearby parks so if you plan to hike this is a great spot.

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend. The home is adorable and is well appointed for cooking. And the owners provided shampoo, soap, toilet paper, etc. The home is located on a quiet road with some farm animal noises near by. The neighboring goats and cows keep our dog on her toes as she never heard those noises before. It was comical. Beds are comfortable. We enjoyed the quiet front porch and treetop deck. The stars really come out at night so bring a blanket for some backyard star gazing - when it's a new moon, the area gets really dark but the owners have flashlights hanging on the hooks in the hallway for your use. The area around the house is rural but there are some nice attractions. We hiked and my husband checked out the nearby General Store. If you're looking for a relaxing time in the mountains of WV - this house does the job.
