The place has a very distinct character. There’s nothing fancy about it (very rustic), but it’s clean, everything works as it should, and the staff is very helpful indeed. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

Staff was a highlight - great help and very friendly. The views - highlands cows, sunset, and a firepit to watch the stars. Our cabin came with a sunroom with a day bed and porch swing. On-site restaraunt was delicious! Thanks Dave and Jack. Highly recommend this stay.

Arriving at the Normaway Inn in the dark, we were greeted by the owner in the driveway and invited to their quaint barn to hear a talented fiddler. We didn’t stay long as we were tired, but our stay was comfortable yet short. Our cottage was homey and cute. Had everything we needed. We appreciated the hospitality and good nights rest.

Beautifully rustic and cozy. Cabins were very comfortable. Nice bathroom and shower. Our cabin included a lovely porch swing. There was a shared fire pit surrounded by welcoming Adirondack chairs in front of our place. Breakfast was not available. Fridge and coffee machine in cabin. Horses and cows in the pasture. The evening entertainment included fiddlers and square dancing for all to enjoy. Would definitely stay here again.

We only stayed one night but it was an excellent experience. All the staff were extremely kind and helpful. The property is lovely and the cabin itself was clean and cozy. We had our dog with us and so it was nice to be able to walk the grounds with her. We were booked in for dinner with our reservation and had a yummy meal with excellent service. I would definitely stay again.

Very rustic. Nature all around you. Enjoyed the common room with a gent playing instruments and singing for us. Loved seeing the highland cows. Had a cassette player loaded with Celtics music and a juccuzi in our chalet. If you don't care for carbon copy hotels. This is for you.

A very pleasant stay

We stayed only one night here. Although the property is a bit older the buildings appear well cared for and the setting is lovely. We had a very clean and comfortable room . The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely meal in the dining room. All in all a very pleasant stay and we would recommend it.

The place was clean, still kept it’s rustic look. Taking a seat outside at night and watching the sparkling stars was great. Waking up to Animals such as horses and Cows, was a beautiful experience. Coffee and bread were fresh and waiting in the front desk. Highly recommend.

Owners were very accommodating and friendly. This is a historic property. It has an old fashioned social component with live music in the common area and several fire pits on the grounds. Walking trails begin on this working farm. Truly charming. We enjoyed our much needed relaxing stay. We are motorcycle riders and the location was perfect for the must do Cabot trail.

We were placed in a dirty old wooden cabin which was my worst nightmare. Hardly slept a wink. Other than that, the meal we had was excellent and the Celtic music in the music barn was very enjoyable.

Reminded me of visiting Grandpa

Comfortable beds and a friendly and helpful staff makes this quirky place that much better. If you book understanding this is a very old house with little upgrades, you will be fine. Yes the walls are thin so you hear every creak but it's part of the charm. It reminds me so much of my grandparents house in Ireland when I was young. The traditional music at the barn on site on Friday and the music in the living room on Saturday was fabulous too.

Great place and amazing courteous staff

This Inn/Cabin/Hotel is a great spot to stay if you're touring the Cape Breton Island. We were visiting the western area of the island (CB Highlands National Park nearest to Cheticamp) so this was a good and affordable place to stay while we were in this area. What we absolutely found amazing was the impeccable customer service of the staff. When we arrived, we were offered to stay in one of the cabin if we wanted to but chose instead to stay in a very quaint and comfortable room in the main lodge. Unfortunately, we soon found out that there was no hot water and it was already past midnight and the staff was away. Made one phone call and the owner was quick to come over, talk with us and fix the problem. There was a lot a hot water after his visit. Very interesting older gentleman to talk to. The room was extremely comfortable and we truly enjoyed our night. We will definitely be back to this place.

Great spot to get away!

My wife and I had a wonderful 3 night stay. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The property which consists of 250 acres of farmland and forest is mostly open for your enjoyment. Looking out from our cabin porch we could see the horses and highland cattle grazing in a close by field. The animals are all healthy and happy looking. We took wonderful walks around the property daily and met lots of friendly CFA's along the way. The cabins are a bit dated but still comfortable. Cleanliness was on a par with other places we stayed this trip. Personally we thought it could be improved on. But early Sept is late in the season here so... also remember the cabins are used by fisherman often who are coming and going with all their gear. Every morning we could get coffee at the office by 7:30am. In the dining area you can also get breakfast and or dinner in the evening. I would recommend this place to anyone just looking to get away. We enjoyed our stay!

I always hesitant to write a negative review as I recognize that it can adversely affect that bsiness. However, I depend on the honesty of others when selecting accommodations, so it is only right that I am honest about my experience at The Normaway. To put it simply, they should not be in business. The whole place is run-down, and basically run by two very old farmers in very dirty old clothing who have no idea how to run a business like this. They have a very nice young man working for them who they said is a nephew. He accompanied us to our cabin when we arrived. While he was standing there I said I always check the beds, and when I pulled back the sheets there was dirt, grass and hair between the sheets. I said we couldn't stay and asked him to refund the money we had paid. He said he understood (they haven't refunded me yet) but asked me to not write a negative review. For them to only refund if I don't post a negative review is not ethical. I have no idea why they have any positive reviews unless its from friends or relatives, people who want their money returned, or people who feel sorry for them. They offer music some nights (not the night that we were there) so perhaps some reviews are for the music only, and not from people who have actually stayed. It was already getting dark when we arrived at The Normaway and we had a difficult time finding any place to stay in Cape Breton. We ended up having drive all the way to Antigonish that night for a place

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cabin property. The place is surprisingly large, with nearly 40 cabins, and entering through the main gate feels almost like arriving at a historic European estate. In the distance, you can see beautiful mountains, and on a sunny day, simply walking around the property is incredibly relaxing and a great way to unwind. Our cabin was very spacious, with one bedroom and a separate living room. The interior has a charming old-European style, which gives the cabin a unique and cozy atmosphere. The host family was very warm and welcoming, and we really appreciated their hospitality. The only downside was that the check-in process took a little longer than expected. Also, since this is a cabin property surrounded by nature, there were quite a few bugs and some spider webs inside the cabin. This may be part of the experience of staying in a more natural, rustic setting, but it was slightly uncomfortable at times. Overall, it was a pleasant and relaxing stay, especially for anyone who enjoys nature, mountain views, and a quiet getaway.
