(1,000 reviews) The hotel itself was great - large, spacious rooms, including a full soaking tub and huge shower, very clean and comfortable room. We had a small balcony to enjoy the views. Staff was very nice and helpful. Only a 5 minute walk to the Bastille where we enjoyed riding the cable cars up the mountain for an amazing view. However, the immediate area outside the hotel and throughout the city, we did not feel safe - even in the daytime. Do you research on crime and the sections to avoid. We made the mistake of walking from the train station to the hotel, but took an uber on the way back because we did not want to venture out, It's a shame because this city has so much potential. Even in the local coffee shop, there are signs on the table inside to be aware of pickpockets. (77 reviews) Booked to be on the route of stage 20 of Tour de France but due to landslide route changed. Hotel however was ok even though we didn't expect to have to clean our room at the end or pay 45 euros. As it was we were rarely there, too busy doing Galibier and the Telegraphe cols. Clearly this is not a hotel but designed for other clientele. If you wanted self catering the facilities in the room were excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. There is a pool although we didn't see it. You can order bread for the next day and there are plenty of restaurants less than 1 km away. There is also a good Carrefour. It served its purpose for us. (56 reviews) We have had four family ski holidays staying at Madame Vacances Hotel Le Mottaret and we have always very much enjoyed our time here. The very helpful and friendly staff are excellent. The location of the hotel is right next to the slope just a 30 second stroll from the hotel entrance. There is an excellent ski equipment hire shop on the premises which is very convenient and the shop staff are very helpful. The lounge/bar area is very comfortable and cosy after a day on the slopes, as well as the very soothing jacuzzi located outside at the front of the hotel. The swimming pool/ spa area is also very relaxing and complete with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. We stayed on a half-board basis and the buffet breakfast is fantastic and each evening there was a different theme for the buffet dinner. We really enjoyed every meal! Our room was clean and comfortable with a bath and shower. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here and will soon be booking our next stay here in January 2007.
