"I booked this hotel for my parents and they were very happy with their stay. They were very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. They were pleasantly overwhelmed by the variety of items at their breakfast buffet. They wanted to stay longer but had other places pre-booked. They would stay here again for future visits. Thank you again to the staff of Belem Hotel"

"What a stunning place! Sandrine greeted us when we arrived and showed us around. The ensuite room was small but perfectly appointed for our stay. There was a lovely lounge with comfy sofas amd a TV. The outside space was beautiful, with ample seating for ourselves and other guests. We didn't take a dip in the pool but it looked so inviting. We will definitely be booking again for a longer stay just so we can try out the pool!! Oh and I can't not mention breakfast, fresh eggs, fresh pastries and...

Villa ''Les oliviers'', Tomar, Portugal centre

10/10 Excellent

" Amazing Property – Highly Recommended! The property was huge, beautiful, and amazing, with all the facilities and amenities we needed. Everything was very clean, fresh, and well maintained. The lovely fresh scent of oranges and lemons from the trees made the place even more special. We had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay!"

Hotel Dos Templarios

8/10 Good

"The hotel felt very luxurious for a reasonable price. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered a delicious selection of sweet and savory, in a room with views of the river. The parking only cost 5 Euros per night with validation at the hotel reception desk. Our only complaint was that we couldn’t get the air conditioner to work in order to cool down the room. I wish we had had time to use the pool and sauna. Another thing to be aware of, women are required to use bathing caps in the pool. They can be purchased from the reception desk."

Thomar Boutique Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We really loved the room decor tastefully decorated as Knights of the Templar. The hotel was beautifully situated at the bottom of the castle and convent on top and the edge of the small village below. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was plentiful. A wonderful experience all around."

O Paço - Exclusive Accommodation

10/10 Excellent

"We had booked a very large suite which was bright and modern, extremely spacious with an excellent view across the town to the castle. In addition there is a shared kitchen area and a lovely roof deck with even better views. The location is very convenient for local cafés with a supermarket right across the street and you’re a very short walk to the centre of the old town. Overall this is a very impressive property. highly recommended."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Macãs De Dona Maria?

The best area to stay in Macãs De Dona Maria is within the village itself, particularly near the central square and the main church.

This area provides easy access to the village's amenities, including local shops, cafes, and restaurants. The streets here are generally quiet, and you'll find traditional Portuguese homes, often with small gardens. It's a convenient base for exploring the local area and experiencing the relaxed pace of village life.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will appreciate staying in the heart of Macãs De Dona Maria. It offers a chance to unwind, enjoy local cuisine, and take leisurely strolls through the village and surrounding countryside.

For those interested in exploring the natural beauty of the region, staying closer to the outskirts of the village, particularly towards the areas bordering the Serra de Sicó, would be beneficial.

When is the best time to go to Macãs De Dona Maria?

The best time to visit Maçãs de Dona Maria is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is pleasantly mild and the countryside is at its most beautiful.

Spring brings comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C, and the landscape is lush with blossoming flowers. This is an excellent time for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the natural parks nearby, such as the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, without the intense heat of summer. It's also less crowded than the peak summer season, offering a more peaceful experience.

Autumn offers similarly agreeable weather, with temperatures usually between 18°C and 25°C, and the changing colours of the foliage create a picturesque setting. This period is ideal for those who enjoy exploring historic villages and participating in local harvest festivals that might occur. The vineyards in the wider Leiria district are particularly scenic at this time.

While summer (July and August) is hot, often exceeding 30°C, it's a popular time for those who wish to spend time by the river beaches or take advantage of longer daylight hours. However, it can be busier and less comfortable for extensive sightseeing.
