The best area to stay in Lumbaquí is generally within the town centre itself, as it offers the most convenience and access to local amenities. This central area is relatively compact, with most shops, restaurants, and local services situated along the main thoroughfare, which is often referred to as the "Troncal Amazónica" (E45 highway) as it passes through the town. You'll find a mix of small businesses and local eateries. The town's central park, usually a focal point, is also located here. For travellers looking for ease of access to local services and transport links, staying in the town centre is ideal. It provides a practical base for exploring the surrounding Sucumbíos province, with bus connections to larger cities like Lago Agrio.

For the best weather, the ideal time to visit Lumbaquí is during the drier months from June to September and December to February. These periods generally offer less rainfall, which makes exploring the Amazon rainforest and its various activities more enjoyable. You'll find it easier to navigate the trails and rivers, and wildlife spotting tends to be more consistent. This is particularly good for travellers who want to make the most of outdoor adventures. While you can visit outside these months, be prepared for more frequent and heavier rainfall, which can sometimes impact travel plans and outdoor excursions.
