Learn about the deserts of North America on your exploration of the Living Desert’s vast exhibits. As you approach Eagle Canyon, watch for coyotes, wolves, mountain lions and bobcats. Native birds of prey such as hawks, eagles and vultures soar overhead. In the Bighorn Mountain area, check out the rare desert bighorn sheep. The plant life is equally varied, featuring everything from Sonoran tree beargrass to a colourful sage garden. Enjoy an educational and entertaining Wildlife Wonders Presentation featuring smaller park residents including hedgehogs or snakes. See a performance in the Tennity Amphitheatre. Take a break from the sunny outdoors and check out the Discovery Centre. See and touch replica fossils or relax in the night sky simulation room. Outside, take a spin on the Endangered Species Carousel. Explore the Living Desert’s network of well-marked trails ranging from 0.25 to 5 miles (0.4 to 8 kilometres) through the Sonoran Desert. Depending on the level of adventure you’re seeking, set out on the Inner Loop, Middle Loop or Wilderness Loop through the undisturbed wilderness. Note that the trails are closed during the summer due to very hot conditions. Visit Living Desert Zoo and Gardens any day of the year except Christmas Day. Between June and September, the site operates on a reduced summer schedule. Purchase tickets online before your visit or at the welcome centre. (498 reviews) We found this place as we were coming back from Villa de Guadalupe and wanted to discover Imperial Beach. The owners are very responsive as in too much. I had reached out since we arrived 30 minutes before check in to see if they would accommodate and they didnt. Had to wait till 4pm. They asked if I had a vehicle and luckily I didnt in which they told me "ooh parking wouldn't be available". As we were waiting for 4pm, we couldnt help but noticed the eyesore Toyota Camry with expired Nevada plates that looked like it came back from Burning Man. The Bungalows and surrounding area is nice but you see this hideous thing and you wonder why. Next morning still sleeping, I see a text at 7:15am, a missed call at 8:36 bugging and reminding of the check out. Its annoying and well aware that I need to leave since I have a flight to catch. Granted if it was Thanksgiving weekend, spring break or summer I could understand but com'on excessive much. This is also setup as an Airbrb and should be on that platform and not Expedia. Room is nice and reminds me of San Miguel De Allende and perhaps they visited and decided to turn this into something like this. (480 reviews) Arriving, I struggled to get my luggage up the steep stairs & was surprised that the guy at the top, who was standing there watching me, didn't offer to help. He opened the door & that was the extent of it. I was told my room would be ready in less than an hour so when an hour came & went I checked in again at the front desk and the young man immediately said it wasn't ready yet. I then decided to sit in the lobby instead of out by the pool, and within a minute, the room magically became ready. Overall the rooms are nice and huge and Laura was great at resolving an issue with an employee looking into my window. It would have been nice to have someone mention the ipad turned off all the lights, I fumbled around way too long looking for switches that didn't exisit. I was surprised at how many kids were playing in the pool morning noon & night considering it felt like a more adult/boutique vibe hotel. I didn't feel like I could swim and relax. The breakfast cost is very high, and the eggs in my omelet were overcooked. It came with a side of bacon, but instead, the chef put it in my omelet, and it was chewy. The sweet paprika overwhelmed the side of potatoes so overall I ate about 3 bites and left the rest. $68 later after a $12 cup of coffee & tip I came away vowing never to eat there again. Upon departure, I again wrestled my luggage downstairs by the pool as an employee who had a vacuum in the walkway didn't offer to help. Overall, I'd say the service was poor for the price.
