This is a safe neighborhood and well-lit at night. The only drawback is that the neighborhood is full of tourists and restaurants, and it can be noisy at night. It didn't bother me, but it could be annoying for some people, so be aware of that! Wonderful central location in heart of Lisbon shopping area, with lots of cafes, restaurants and tourist attractions within a short distance. Apartment was clean and comfortable, representing great value for the price. Lovely shower. Air conditioning worked well. Our stay was short so we didn’t cook in the apartment, but it was well equipped for a small place. We arrived late, checked in at the machine and all was smooth and easy. The lady at Reception the next day was very helpful, annswe any questions we had and on day of departure we left our bags until we were ready to leave for the airport. Would definitely stay here again. Only criticism I have is that it was difficult to get in touch with the property in advance to access the information we needed for checking in. I was anxious about some of the reviews I read re unexpected cancellations, and wanted to ensure that the reservation was secure. Were found in a very central location to all the historical sites in Lisbon. The apartment we stayed in was beautiful with decorated tiles, comfy beds, and bathroom with stone floors. Had a small refrigerator allowing us to store breakfast items and water we picked up from the nearby Mini Preço Express. Only negatives were some initially poor communication, very bad wifi (we were on the 3rd floor), and difficulty checking in after hours using the machine. I attempted to confirm the reservation after multiple attempts of email, but did not receive confirmation until 3 days before our stay. After this, we received the WhatsApp number and communication was fine after that. We at after 7:30 PM, but were unable to pay for our stay. After calling on WhatsApp, we learned it is because the machine wants to ask us for a PIN, but US credit cards do not have one. They were able to issue us a temporary key and allowed us to complete payment in person the next day with credit card. Linens and bedding were great. We had difficulty checking in after hours, the machine in the lobby wasn’t working. However, a staff member came right over to let us in and sent us a way to pay via an online link. The location is within blocks of Arco da Rua Augusta (ornate 18th-century arch) and the east entrance to the Baixa-Chiado metro stop, in the heart of Lisbon. However, it’s not a quiet place: Street noise starts around 9:30pm and goes until 2am, and footsteps from other apartments were bad a couple nights. Climate control was a problem: The mini-split AC unit spits out black particles on the sofa and anything you put on the sofa. Management claimed that happens only when the unit is run too much, and advised we turn it off when we leave for the day. It was clear to us the unit needed cleaning because the same unit in the bedroom did not spit out the particles when running the same hours. I have a mini-split at home and they do require routine cleaning. These old buildings can get hot during the day when the A/C is turned completely off all day.
