Lacked a lot of basis stuff in the rooms and I found long dark hair everywhere. Everything was just not maintained as it appeared on the photos. Loud rooms and people slamming doors all night. I had a room with no vent and no cooling whatsoever and lived on the sunny side of the building which made warm nights very unpleasant. Staff was friendly. I think it was way too expensive for standard.

This is the second place in my life I left and booked something else. In the last month doing the Camino de Santiago I’ve stayed in a different place every night in Portugal then into Spain. This is the only place of that trip I’ve had an issue with. I booked it because it had a bath tub and having completed my Camino route my body is wrecked, sore and stiff. An epsom salt bath would have been wonderful. When I checked in I immediately had a bad gut instinct feeling. There were cameras everywhere in the common areas. I like camera in a common area but this felt somehow off to me. Well good thing I trusted my gut. I take my bags and I leave and I get a what’s app call immediately then when I didn’t answer message “Ho” “Hi” “Where are you now?”. Absolutely no reason a hostel/guesthouse should be calling and messaging where you are after you’ve checked in and there is no curfew. Also I learned Expedia leaves it to the owner’s discretion to issue a refund so I was not able to get a refund despite Expedia admitting the call and message were inappropriate and never should have happened.

Simple but good value for the money. Easy to ride a bike to the famous areas (bike shari n station outside the house). Room was simole but clean. You essily hear the neighbors, but thats ok. Safe neighborhood with some nice cafes and restaurants.

All the furniture is broken, or dirty, our door lock came loose by the end of our stay. The owner isnt very trustworthy, nor seems to know the area that well as we got a parking ticket following their advice. This place is not worth the money you pay

They never replied to give me a code to get in so I called and asked for a refund and hotels.com said they couldn’t get me one. This place sent me a message I would get a refund but I haven’t seen it.

The guy who is renting is following you everywhere you go, no privacy!!! you can’t even drink water at the kitchen normal or go to the toilet or someone is watching you, bad bad bad, never again for me. The rooms are as little as you may think, you cant move even your feet.

terrible experience

It was a terrible experience for this booking. We booked this Garden Guest House in advance for one week. When we arrived at 10 pm (and raining) for checking in, they told us our booking was cancelled and no room for us. This put us in a very difficult situation and destroyed all our travel plan and cost much more. They are so no responsible and reliable. Either this hotel or Hotels.com say sorry and give any compensation. Consumer right not protected!

When I arrived at the door of Garden Guest House at 5:30pm and used the Message Property of Expedia to get check-in instructions. Instead, I got a response forwarding me to another nearby property : Fortune guest house. I also got another message of failing to call me. Of course, I am using my phone from home country. I guess the property re-sold my booking to another customer, thinking that I will not show up. This is WRONG practice as I already paid for it. This is the first time I encounter this. To make this case worse, the forwarded guest house has mold in bathrooms. Although the manager is polite, and asked me to wait 10 minutes for preparing my room. He has done a lot of work to try to keep the place clean with 5 rooms.

The room looked nothing like the pictures. It was dirty, outdated, and uncomfortable. The closet in the room was broken so we couldn’t use it. The fan that was provided was broken too. There are two shared bathrooms, which are dirty and not have mold all over the place. The kitchenette was not really available to use, other than the microwave; you weren’t allowed to use the stove or the washing machine. They provided no towels even though in the pictures they show they do. There were bedbugs and whenever the owners would come in, they’d be very noisy and at one point they just randomly opened our room door. We had to leave this place earlier than expected and look a hotel near by. When I let them know that we were leaving early because of the conditions, they just said “ok” and did not offer us a refund for the remaining time, nor did they care. I am not sure how this place is still in business. The owners speak broken English so it was hard to understand, and they don’t speak Portuguese as they are from somewhere in the Middle East.
