We chose to stay a night in Lewiston because Portland was unaffordable, but we regretted not paying a little extra to get a minimal level of cleanliness. We thought we would get a clean, basic room, but it was terrible. I never thought it would be possible to get such a bad room in a big hotel chain like Super 8.
The beds were clean but I doubt that the rest of the room had been cleaned. We decided right away that we weren't going to use the shower (the curtain pole was falling and the bath was so dirty). There were cigarette burns everywhere: on the fridge, on the toilet bowl, in the sink, on the carpet, on the chair... At midnight, someone knocked on our door (which didn't have a lock other then the magnetic card), twice. We were freaked. When I yelled that the room is occupied, we just heard someone mumble and try other doors.
We didn't see the continental breakfast but even if there was one, we wouldn't have tried it.
To be fair, the staff was really friendly and nice. It's a family that just acquired the building, I hope they'll be able to do updates in the rooms and keep the business going!
