#### Stretch out on one of this town’s beautiful beaches and look out across the Gulf of Mexico from a coastal fort formerly used to spy pirates.

Lerma is a laid-back little portside town on Campeche’s coastline. Explore the town’s waterfront and find restaurants and magnificent views across the ocean. With a rich maritime tradition and plenty of fascinating history, Lerma is a great spot to experience the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Go for a wander along Lerma’s waterfront boulevard, where you’ll see little marinas and a busy port stretching out across the ocean waters. Pack a picnic or grab a snack from one of the seafood shacks that line the shore and enjoy a meal with ocean views. Catch a local soccer match at Lerma’s waterfront pitch or take a moment to relax at the Parque Principal Lerma. Park benches and tree-lined pathways make this urban oasis a great spot for a break.

Check out the Nautical Club, which plays host to the annual Copa Anual de Carreras de Lanchas Ah-Kimpech. Make your way to the Fort of San Luis, a significant defence in the 17th century. During this time, marauding pirates stalked the waters and many townships along the coast protected themselves with high stone walls and gateways.

A short distance south of Lerma is the pretty beach of Playa Bonita. Walk along the sandy shores or shelter beneath the shade of a thatched-roof hut. The beach has a pleasant swimming area and some great dining nearby. The locals like a game of fútbol at this seaside destination too, so sit back and watch the action. Book a room in one of Playa Bonita’s resorts and make the most of the pretty beachfront destination. Play a round of golf at the Campeche Country Club located directly behind the beach.

Lerma is located on the coast of the state of Campeche. It is approximately 15 minutes’ drive from the capital city of Campeche and is a popular daytrip destination. Enjoy Lerma’s historic waterfront and beach appeal as a break from the city.
