1. Castle Tree House

Castle Tree House
2.5 star property
Tanna Island
8.0 out of 10, Very good, (4 reviews)
"Mike, his wife and 2 daughters were excellent. However the place was affected by nature and there is no electricity, no wifi, no hot water. As other guests have said before, it is a long way from Lenakel, 1.5 hours driving on the dirt road which can be difficult after rain. So I won't recommend staying more than 2-3 nights mainly to see the volcano+- the Iatapu traditional dance."

"Every thing was just perfect and fine for this property, except it is not suitable for unadventurous poeple. It is what it is as advertised, cheap and value for money. A fan should have been added as it can be suffocating in hot weather condition."

Glowing Mountain view tree house

Glowing Mountain view tree house

8/10 Good
"We loved our two-night stay at Glowing Mountain Tree House. It was such an authentic experience and felt like a real adventure! Philip was incredibly helpful and organised everything for us, from airport transfers to visits to the hot springs and Mount Yasur volcano. The tree house is within walking distance of the entrance to the volcano, which meant we were able to visit twice—an amazing bonus, especially as the weather was much better on our second visit. Philip’s wife also cooked us delicious, authentic local meals. The tree house is basic but very clean and comfortable. If you’re visiting Tanna to experience the volcano and don’t mind roughing it a little, I would 100% recommend staying at Glowing Mountain Tree House."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Lenakel?
The best area to stay in Lenakel for most travellers is along the main coastal road that runs through the town centre, particularly near the market.

This area is the heart of Lenakel, offering easy access to local amenities and the waterfront. The main road, often just called the "main street," is where you'll find most shops, the central market, and local eateries. It's a convenient base for exploring the island and experiencing local life.

Couples looking for a relaxed yet authentic experience will find this area ideal. You're steps away from the Lenakel Market, where you can browse local produce and crafts, and the nearby beachfront provides lovely spots for watching the sunset. Many guesthouses in this area offer direct access to the sea.

For those interested in exploring the island's natural attractions, staying near the main road in Lenakel provides good access to transport links, whether you're hiring a vehicle or arranging tours to places like Mount Yasur.
When is the best time to go to Lenakel?
The best time to go to Lenakel is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience consistently pleasant weather with less humidity and a lower chance of rain, making it ideal for exploring the island. The average daily temperature remains comfortably warm, typically around 25-28°C (77-82°F), with gentle trade winds providing a refreshing breeze. This period is great for outdoor activities like hiking to the volcano, swimming, and enjoying the beaches.

Travellers looking for an active holiday, particularly those interested in exploring Mount Yasur, will find this period most rewarding. The drier conditions mean clearer skies for volcano viewing, especially at sunset, and the trails are less muddy, making for easier and more enjoyable treks. It's also a great time for snorkelling and diving, as the visibility in the water tends to be at its best.

Families often find the dry season ideal as well. The stable weather allows for consistent planning of excursions and beach days without the disruption of unexpected downpours.
