About this property
Secluded Log Cabin Retreat on 5 Acres and Stunning Long Views
Escape to Mountain Crest, a quiet mountaintop retreat designed for guests who value privacy, nature, and a true getaway experience. Set on five secluded acres, this authentic log cabin offers sweeping panoramic views—up to 100 miles on clear days.
What You’ll Love • Total seclusion on private acreage • Expansive long-range mountain views • Cozy, authentic log cabin atmosphere • Wildlife sightings right outside your door • WiFi + Satellite TV (when you want to reconnect)
A Different Kind of Stay This is not a resort or a polished luxury rental—it’s a genuine retreat. We’re a family sharing a place we love, kept intentionally natural. Instead of manicured lawns, you’ll find open mountain terrain where deer, birds, and other wildlife roam freely.
To help preserve the peaceful environment and protect the wildlife, hunting and the use of firearms are not permitted on the property.
Inside the Cabin The interior is warm and inviting, with massive log construction that creates a cozy, grounded feel. It’s an ideal space for a romantic getaway or uninterrupted time with family—simple, comfortable, and intentionally removed from the noise of everyday life.
Seasonal Access (Important) Winter brings incredible beauty—but also real conditions. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended, and tire chains may be needed depending on weather. The gravel access road helps preserve the privacy and setting, but it is not suitable for motorcycles.
Why Guests Choose Mountain Crest Guests don’t come here for luxury finishes—they come for the stillness, the views, and the feeling of having a mountain to themselves.
If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll feel right at home here.

My family and I have stayed in many VRBO's, and this is probably the most well stocked place we stayed in if you are wanting to do any cooking or grilling. Clean, and pretty secluded.
If you want something close to Deadwood, but far enough away to feel secluded - this is the place!
Beautiful property about 15-20 minutes from downtown Deadwood. Easy drive to town. Loved the balcony off the bedroom - great place to have coffee and enjoy the view!
We loved this place! Kitchen was fully stocked with any itmes that we needed. It was sunny and welcoming. Our bed was super comfy and we were able to catch up on our roadtrip laundry. The best part was the firepit and mountain top view - FANTASTIC!
We enjoyed our stay, very secluded and peaceful location. It was super well stocked to stay entertained while spending the full day there, tons of games, DVDs, and kitchen ware. We loved our nightly fire pits chilling with a friendly family of chipmunks.
We had an amazing stay at Mountain Crest! It was clean, well kept, and had amazing views. The drive to the property was scenic, but was close enough to Lead if we needed anything, but also close to all the hiking trails. We go to the Black Hills every year, and will be looking to rebook this place next year!
This property is perfect for a weekend get away. It was everything we were looking for our family to unplug and recharge. If I could give it a 10 out of 10 I would.
Beautiful setting and has everything you need for a remote woodsy getaway with a fantastic view. The cabin was just as described, very clean and well maintained. We arrived the day of a winter storm warning and the cabin with all the features kept us extremely comfortable, happy, and warm. The roads to the cabin were very well maintained.
We have a great time at the cabin. It felt like we were alone on thousands of acres which was so peaceful. The accommodations were as described except they did not mention they had a black stone grill, which we used for smash burgers. Great location for all the attractions but far away from the crowds. We highly recommend.
This was our second time at this rental and it was just as wonderful as the first. This cabin is a truly special place, it’s cozy, comfortable, well equipped, and even if it weren’t for all these throngs the views, scenery, and location would make staying here worth it. While our adventures likely won’t take us back to the Black Hills again for a while, we hope to be able to return here again in the future.
What a wonderful property! You could see for miles! Serene, quiet, so much room to move, walk, enjoy nature. The fire pit was beautiful. The home was adorable and so comfortable. The description of the stairs is accurate but very manageable. We will definitely be back!
What a wonderful place to stay! Grounds and cabin were fantastic. And the view absolutely priceless. Was the best trip the wife and i have taken, from the cabin and location to the fun we had in deadwood visiting shops, bars and casinos, trip to devils tower and other fun things to see. Still plenty to come back for and do on our next trip. Communication with the owners was also wonderful. Thanks again for everything!
The view and fire pit were key reasons for staying this far out of town. Well worth it. A bit disappointed with only one bathroom and no doors on bedrooms. This would have changed my decision. Otherwise, big props on no mosquitos!
This property is one of the best VRBO rentals we have ever rented. This location in the Black Hills is close to National Parks and monuments, local attractions and everything you could ever wish for in a vacation. The cabin is in an amazing place and so peaceful. It had everything we could ever need including a Blackstone grill. We had never used a grill like this, but we sure learned quickly and cooked only on this grill the entire time we were there. The road to the cabin is very well maintained and we did not have any problems getting around. Great place that we would recoomend!
The location was great, very remote and quiet.
The cabin was okay but the guest bathroom in the upstairs bedroom is locked and kept for owners own use, so we had to use the bathroom in the downstairs utility room, which was not good at night because the stairs are very steep and you need a light on to use them which wakes up your partner. Out side was a bit neglected and needs some care and attention.
However we enjoyed our stay but would look for a different cabin next time we visit Deadwood.
This was perfect! Looked for a place to just relax. This is a gem! It truly looked magical with the snow falling and the peaceful walks were splendid. Just what we needed to decompress from
Life’s craziness. It’s secluded , peaceful, cozy and so relaxing. The bed was a great nights sleep too. The kitchen is cozy and the wood burning stove kept us very warm. The scenery and view was breathtaking . We loved the quiet and it had great amenities as well. It truly felt like we were in a hallmark movie scene. We loved it and we will be back for sure!
Our family enjoyed the stay, and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place in the Black Hills. The pictures and description are accurate, and we were happy we could bring our dog as well. We enjoyed evenings on the deck after busy days sightseeing the area.
Only thing I wish I knew ahead of time, coffee is not provided. There is a coffee maker and K cup machine, just need to bring your own coffee. The first morning meant driving 15 minutes to the nearest coffee spot. Not a dealbreaker but a bit of an inconvenience.
Overall a great stay, and would stay there again.
Beautuful natural surroundings. The cabin was outstanding. Very comfortable and clean with a large kitchen. It had a gorgeous wrap around deck with a stunning view. We can't wait to come back.
Very clean, awesome property with great owners. I highly recommend this location - it’s worth the drive. If you want a peaceful stay with spectacular views this is your place!
