"We had a very pleasant stay at Aramya Riverfront Boutique Resort. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and comfortable, and the pool is fantastic. The hotel also has a wonderful setting with great views of the surrounding rainforest. The staff were one of the highlights of our stay. The reception team was incredibly friendly and helpful – when our daughter needed medication, they even arranged it for us free of charge. "We stayed in the Araliya Suite 24.2-27.2. Which was absolutely spotless and modern. We loved having our own private pool, sauna, and river view, where we even went swimming a few times. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially Indunil. He arranged an adventure for us to the waterfalls, a short jungle hike, and also acted as a guide to a nearby cave. He also guided us to safely swim at the waterfall behind the hotel. And to top it all off, he arranged a candlelight dinner by the river! Five...

"We really enjoyed our stay at 'Forest Edge Hotel'. The location is charming with nature and beautiful views all around (I think all rooms have access to a balcony). It's far away enough from the main road that you don't hear any traffic. They also have a lovely pool. The staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. "A beautiful property nestled in the jungle. The views were amazing and the sounds of the rushing river were super relaxing. The rooms were big and airy. There is no air conditioning but some ceiling fans that do the job perfectly (we were never too hot at night) - the pool with the river view in room 10 was spectacular. We enjoyed the food and the service was really nice and kind. Ashley is a character and brings some personality to the table. It’s very isolated but it’s possible to get a Tuktuk...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Laxapana?

The best area to stay in Laxapana is near the Laxapana Falls, specifically in the surrounding hill country villages like Maskeliya or Nallathanniya. This region is characterised by its stunning natural beauty, dominated by tea plantations, mist-shrouded mountains, and the impressive Laxapana Falls themselves, which are one of the tallest waterfalls in Sri Lanka. The area is quite spread out, with accommodations often located amongst the hills, offering serene views. For couples seeking a romantic and tranquil escape, staying in a boutique hotel or guesthouse overlooking the tea estates near Maskeliya is ideal. Many properties here offer private balconies, nature walks, and opportunities for quiet contemplation amidst the breathtaking scenery. It's a great spot for unwinding and enjoying each other's company away from the bustle.Solo travellers looking for adventure and a connection with nature will find Nallathanniya to be an excellent base. This village is the starting point for the trek up Adam's Peak (Sri Pada), a significant pilgrimage site. It offers a more rustic experience with guesthouses and local eateries, and the opportunity to interact with fellow hikers.

When is the best time to go to Laxapana?

The best time to visit Laxapana is during the dry season, which runs from December to March, and also from June to September.During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, especially the waterfalls and hiking trails. The weather is generally pleasant and cooler than the coastal areas, which is a welcome change. For those planning to spend time outdoors, perhaps hiking to the base of the Laxapana Falls or exploring the surrounding tea plantations, these dry periods offer the most comfortable conditions. You'll have clearer skies for photography and more accessible paths for walking.
